José Olvera Obituary

José Carlos Olvera Our beloved brother and uncle José Carlos Olvera passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2008 at his home in Biggsville, IL. José was one of nine children. He is preceded in death by his parents, Reyes and Cleotilde Olvera and his brother Reyes A. Olvera. He was born and raised in Austin, Texas. After graduating from Austin High School he joined the military. He served in both the Army and the Air Force in the U.S., Europe and Viet Nam. He was a decorated veteran earning a bronze star. After his military life he attended the University of Texas, graduating with a degree in journalism. He then attended Catholic University in Washington, D.C. and the University of Iowa from which he received his law degree. He was admitted to the Iowa Bar, and practiced law both as a private attorney and for the state of Iowa, concluding his career as the Chief Public Defender for Burlington. José will be greatly missed by his sisters, brothers-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and his great-great-nephew. José didn't have any children of his own but he gave all his love to his family, his beloved dog Bunny and his cats. We wish to thank the Burlington Public Defenders office for all of the help they gave us in helping with José's needs, especially Becky and Renee. José was a devoted parishioner at St. Patrick's church in Biggsville where he was involved in several social ministries. He was both a Eucharist minister and a lector. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 12041 Bittern Hollow, Austin at 10:00 a.m. in the morning.

Jose Carlos, I know that was your name, but to me you will always be Bebe. I remember the many great times I had with you and Buddy. As kids I probably spent more time at your house then mine. I know that it's just the way life happened, but I wish we would have been closer in our "adult" life. There will be a time that we will meet again.

Dear Family,
I offer you my condolences on the death of our brother and your uncle, Jose Carlos.
As we go through our time of sadness and pain at the loss of Jose, let us remember all the good times we shared with him. Most of all we know that he is now with Daddy, Mother, Buddy and Tio Chuy,
who loved us so much and was so involved in our lives. And all of those in our familes who have gone before us.
What a PARTY they must have had as they welcomed Jose, to his place in heaven...
Now, Mom has her two boys with her...
We will continue to pray for his soul and for ourselves, as we pick up and go forward...
My sincere thanks, to the members of Jose' family that went to Biggsville to give closure to his life in Iowa and Illinois. I know that must have been difficult and painful. Thank you, again....
I would also, like to thank all of the people in Iowa and Illinois for befriending, my brother, Jose Carlos, throughout his life there. He loved living and practising Law in Iowa. We were very proud of him, and his many involvements and achievements in your communities and his committment to his faith and church...
I love you my brother and will miss you all the days of my life, just like I miss Daddy, Mother and Buddy.
Love,
Alicia, Luis, Peter, Camille and family
