Judy Alvarez Obituary

Judy G. Alvarez passed away peacefully, at the age of 74, in Austin, Texas, on September 8, 2022.

Judy was born on July 3, 1948, at Breckenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas. Her twin sister, Jane Hernandez, was born the following day. She was raised with her two sisters, Jane Hernandez and Linda Gonzales and three brothers, Sonny, Spike and John Garcia. Judy attended Travis High School and then studied at Nixon-Clay Commercial College where she met the love of her life, Benino (Ben) Alvarez. The two courted and eventually married on October 21st, 1968. The next year they welcomed their first-born, Alice, followed by the birth of James and Audrey, all within 4 short years. Starting a family and working full time was difficult, but Judy was the glue that held the chaos together. She would literally do anything for her children, then eventually grandchildren.

Judy began her professional career with the Austin Police Department and then moved on to IBM where she retired after 25 years. Judy then started a second career with the City of Austin where she retired in 2013. In Judy's retirement time she loved crafting, baking, doing puzzles, watching old black and white movies and spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved traveling with Ben to various casinos around the U.S. Judy was a devoted Catholic and the most giving person. She never wanted for anything and gave away all she did have.

Judy is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ben Alvarez; daughter, Alice Alvarez; son, James Alvarez; sister, Jane Hernandez; brothers, John and Sonny Garcia; and nine grandchildren, Humberto (35), Anthony (32), Victoria (29), Michael (25), Jordan (28), Troy (25), Jay (19), Malory (23) and Luke (9).

Judy was proceeded in death by her parents, Hilario and Angel Garcia; her sister, Linda Gonzales; brother, Spike Garcia; and her daughter, Audrey Alvarez.

Mass service will be at San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest Ave., Austin, TX 78704 on November 12 at 3PM.
