Kenneth Brown Obituary

Kenneth L. Brown Maestro Kenneth LaRue Brown was born on September 2, 1960 to Thomas LaRue and Mable Marie Limuel Brown in Austin, TX; both preceded him in death. Kenneth was the youngest of three children and was educated in Austin public schools where he was a graduate of L.C. Anderson High School. Kenneth's gift grew extremely and he began to write music and direct. It was then as a teenager, Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church hired him as a musician. During this time Kenneth met and married Bridgette Watts and through this union a beautiful daughter was birthed, Britne LaRue Brown. As a young man Kenneth was very active in the Gospel Music community, the Lord led Kenneth to start his own community choir (Resurrection Community Choir, affectionately known as Resurrection) in the fall of 1985. The Lord moved Kenneth to Houston, TX. During his tenure in Houston, Kenneth became a true "Choirmaster". During this time, Kenneth married Gospel recording artist Kathy Taylor. Kenneth moved back home to Austin and united with the Rosewood Baptist Church where he was appointed the Minister of Music on September 25, 2006, pastored by Rev. Colby Shorter III. God called Kenneth home suddenly on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 5:40 a.m. He leaves a thankful enriched life to be long remembered and cherished by: his loving daughter, Britne LaRue Brown; his granddaughter, Starylnn Renee McKinney; his brother, Thomas E. Brown (Alice); his sister, Jocelyn M. Taylor; his nephews, Kurie Brown, Victor Brown, David McIntosh, Clarence McIntosh, Terrence McIntosh, Johnathan Brown, Mark Taylor, Jr.; and his niece, Jennifer Taylor all from Austin. He also leaves to cherish his memory, a host of relatives, best friend and adopted "big brother" Barry J.W. Franklin, and countless friends, church members and musician friends. His body will lie in state at Rosewood Baptist Church today, 11:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. A musical celebrating his legacy will be at St. James Baptist Church this evening at 7:00 p.m. featuring gospel artists from around the state and country. A Life Celebration Service will be at St. James Baptist Church on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. Attendees are requested to wear colors black and pink. Interment will be at Assumption Cemetery. Flowers can be sent to King-Tears Mortuary. Services entrusted to Barry J.W. Franklin, CFSP & A Life Celebration by Franklin. www.king-tearsmortuary.com

Kenneth will truly be missed. He was and still is a great man of not only stature but also faith. I first came to know Kenneth and his family as a member of the Ulit Ave Missionary Baptist Church. I even had the honor to be directed by in him at times in our church choir. To know Kenneth Brown was to love Kenneth Brown he was a warm, loving, kind, and thoughtful person. I will truly miss the Angel that GOD blessed this earth with for such a short period. Kenneth is now spreading the love and joy of music in heaven. We can rest a sure that we all will see him again one day. Thomas and Jocelyn I have always looked up to you and Kenneth and considered all of you to be the brothers and sister I never had. I just want to let you and the rest of the family know I love you all and I am with you in spirit though I cannot be there in body. Take care and keep the faith. --- Love, Rowena

Ken without knowing
Has left a pleasant showing
Ken without knowing
Has left a light vibrantly glowing
Allowing others to peer favorably within
In their times of struggles and in times of joy
Ken without knowing
Lifted above the shelves of sorrows
Sailing, treading, challenged the waves
Settled down he will share the breezy days
He walked by faith, he loved and in God he trusted
Knowingly he stepped into his anointed tomorrows
Ken without knowing was anointed to become
The one of wisdom as he stepped into
his destiny
He walked by faith, loving and trusting
Holding on to the Master’s hand
As he treaded on God's graced pebbles of sand
Ken without knowing; Walking by faith
Loving and trusting; without knowing Made a difference THANK YOU
God bless all the family

Now you get to direct the best they have in Heaven. I can only feel blessed that I had a chance to be in your life. I didn;t know that kid in school would grow up to be such a great man. Thank you for including me at the start of Resurrection. I will always cherish the memories.

Family and friends,
whenever we met in church, "KB" would ask me what I was singing, always assuming I was singing. Then he would put in his request, "Perfect Peace." (My favorite song, and he knew that!) And then "KB" would have the audacity to say "Go get Luke 'cause I don't know how to play that!" He really tickled me! Kenneth had a kind gentle spirit that put you at ease. As a former Austinite and Mt. Zion Choir member we enjoyed "KB"'s anointed musical prowess briefly, and are richer for the experience.
My heart sank when I got the news of "KB"'s passing. I do; however, believe that the joys of the world to come far outweigh the fellowship that we enjoy here. So, though my feelings are hurt right now, I am comforted knowing that my brother is now in the very presence of Jesus and has joined the Communion of Saints! I thank the Good Lord for my dear friend, and every time I sing "Perfect Peace", I'll think of "KB".

Grace and peace.

I am going to truly miss you Ken. Our friendship went all the way back to the State Junior Mission days when we had the chance to minister together through the instruments, Boy were those the days. In your email that you sent me on Saturday and the one that I sent back, can you imagine the hurt I felt when I was informed that you had passed away Monday night and I had called to leave you a message Sunday night to rub it in on you about the Saints? My God! To the family, my prayers are with you during these times of grief but just know that he was so loved and admired by many. His presence will always be with me. Love you guys much and may God richly bless you. Britne your dad was a jewel.

I met Kenneth after he directed his choir in a performance of "He's Coming Back Again".... I was floored by the piece and asked him about the song at EVERY opportunity (SMILE). What a kind-spirited soul and my heart goes out to everyone he's touched.

Kenneth was always the consummate choir director and musician who was an inspiration to everyone with whom he came in contact. He will be sorely missed in the Central and South Texas music and church community. May you rest in peace Brother Kenneth and rest in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! I grew up listening to Kenneth in the Austin City Wide Youth and Adult Choruses. I also followed him at Fountain of Praise in Houston as well as Greater Mount Zion in Austin.

I'm sadden to hear about Kenneth he was an inspriration to me during my years of knowing him. I can say he will be truly missed by everyone but he is home now and can rejoice everyday. I thank GOD for the time and enjoyable memories, I have in my heart of Mr. Kenneth Brown. Kenneth's christian musical legacy will never be forgotten he has touched many hearts in so many ways. I will always remember his "smile" and his caring words at all times - no matter where we (Lanna & I) saw him (be it: churching, shopping, or wherever)! So many memories cross my mind - from times in San Antonio and Austin with the Donald Bedford Chorale to times here in Houston - "Uncle Kenny" was always the same. God bless the family, friends and choir members - we will ALL see him again one day - if we live right! Tristan Foster (Mathis) Caldwell

On Tuesday I was listening to the radio and there was a song playing that we used to sing in the choir at SPO. I began to think about all the wonderful times we had praising God as a family. Your warm and loving personality along with that winning smile will definitely be missed. Now you can lead the choir in heaven and when you want them to push you can yell, " Come on!"

I had the pleasure of being apart of the S. Post Oak/Fountain of Praise Women's Choir under Bro. Brown as we affectionately called him. He took a small group of women that loved singing for the Lord and turned them into "SANGING women for the Lord. He pushed us to as he would say, "give God our best". My heart is full, eyes filled with tears, yet I rejoice in knowing that he has assumed his duties in heaven directing the angels. Oh to be in that choir!!! To the family, THANK YOU for allowing so many of us to love him, bring him into our familes, worship with him and call him, Unc, Bro, Friend. God bless you during this time of Celebration.
