LaVerne (known as Vern) was born in Harrison County near Woodbine on Sept. 26, 1928. He attended country schools and Woodbine High School before joining the U.S. Coast Guard near the end of World War II. After an honorable discharge, he worked at building high power lines in various parts of the country. He resided many years in the Phoenix area before moving to Paris where he became a well-respected cattle rancher.
Vern was the son of Fred and Helen (McGee) Peterson. He is survived by sisters Violet Finken of Woodbine; Phyllis (Don) Ballard of Huson, Mont.; and brothers Ken (Shirley) Peterson of Hampshire, Ill. and Richard Peterson of Traer, Iowa and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. He was proceeded in death by his parents and by a sister Carolyn Beaman and a brother Edward Peterson.
His final wishes were handled by the Bright-Holland Funeral Home in Paris, Texas.
