Lee Weddell Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

The life of Lee Weddell will be remembered at 10:00 a.m. on December 20, 2003, at the Cook-Walden Funeral Home on 6100 North Lamar. Lee, fondly known as Butch to her longtime friends due to her love of steaks, was born in Waxahachie, Texas, on October 28, 1923, and spent much of her childhood on the farms of her Mothers four sisters and grandparents in that rural area of Texas. She later moved with her mother, Nell Faulkner, to Laredo, Kingsville and finally to her beloved Austin. In 1946, she married Wray Weddell and eventually both she and Wray became employed in the local radio and TV industry. Lee retired from Channel 36 News to play bridge with her friends, love and care for her ever present Siamese Cats and observe the political and Hollywood scenes with a powerful interest. In her later years she became actively interested in the age of computers and often reminded many politicians of their consituent responsibilities via that medium. She was immensely concerned for the underprivileged and the health and welfare of animals. Lee is survived by Ronnie Weddell, her son; her three grandsons, Kevin, Travis, and Steven; and Wacille Wolfe, her sister-in-law. Ms. Weddell (Butch) passed away on December 17, 2003.

Lee was my friend. We worked together at Channel 36 for 5 years. I especially enjoyed her stories about the early years of broadcasting in the Austin market. She was fun!
