Marilane NATHER Obituary
On September 26, 2015, Marilane Levine Nather passed away peacefully at the age of 82. She is survived by her 3 children, Wendy Nather, David Nather and Lara Nather; her stepchildren, Kathy Nather Thomas and Kelley Thompson; her nieces, Karen Shilling Nugent and Susan Shilling, and her nephew, Maccabee Levine; and 4 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, R. Edward Nather; her sisters, Shirley Levine Shilling and Pearl Levine Dick, and her brother, Jesse G. Levine.
Born and raised in Bayonne, New Jersey, Marilane became an ardent student of life. After she earned a degree in Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin, she founded Nather Publications. Thereafter, she mastered the skill of investing in such then-fledgling companies as Whole Foods and Dell Inc. She maintained a lifelong commitment to her Jewish faith through self-education, genealogical research and preservation of the Yiddish language. She will be remembered for her charm, wit, advocacy, curiosity, appreciation of diversity, love of motherhood, bibliophilia, world travels and an endless capacity for love.

I first became friends with Lara Nather in elementary school. I will always remember Mrs. Nather for her friendliness, her lovely, lilting voice and manner of making conversation and how I was introduced to bagels for the first time at her house. Into my adulthood, she was always interested in hearing from me and what was new in my life and with my family. Even in recent years, after various health struggles, she was friendly and encouraging. My prayers are with my dear friend Lara and the rest of the family. Mrs. Nather will be missed!
