Martin Eifert Obituary

Martin Erich Eifert Martin Erich Eifert was called to his heavenly home by faith in Christ alone on Friday, August 28, 2009. Born on May 20, 1927, in Port Arthur, Texas, he was the second of five children born to Rev. Paul and Ruth Eifert. Martin was our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and faithful friend in Christ. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Paul and Rev. Walter Eifert, and survived by his wife of 47 years, Eleanor. He is also survived by his sister, Alice (Otto) Kunze; brother, Rev. Herbert (Julie) Eifert; children, Anna Eifert, Debbie (Michael) McIntire, Paula Eifert and fiancé Jeff Olbrich, James (Kimberly) Eifert; grandchildren, Nathan, Courtney, Mikayla, Erich, Seth and Stephen; and nieces and nephews. An exceptional baseball player who was offered a contract to play in the minor leagues for the St. Louis Cardinals, Martin found his true calling in serving others. He lived his faith by example as a respected Lutheran teacher and principal ~ first in McAllen, Texas and then in Miami, Florida. Always a humble witness to the saving grace of Christ's triumph over death, he left a lasting impression on many. Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Visitation will be Sunday, August 30, 2009, between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Cook-Walden/ Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 31, 2009, at 1:30 p.m., at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1513 E. Yager Lane. Burial will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Martin's family. We have always cherished the Eifert family. I sat at the feet of Pastor Paul Eifert daily for 3 years in Confirmation instruction and studied Greek under Martin's tutelage for a year at Concordia in Austin. Besides he was a member of my home congregation in Warda, TX for many years. Praise the Lord for him being part of our lives.
