Mary Elizabeth Buck Vance

Mary Vance Obituary

Mary Elizabeth (Bettye) Buck Vance Born in Harlingen, Texas, daughter of Edwin Hermann Buck and Val Covington Buck, Bettye Vance got to Austin as soon as she could. She graduated from The University of Texas, where she met and married Charles Michael Vance. They lived variously in Madison, Wisconsin; Havana, Cuba (Charles' birthplace); Los Angeles, California; and Nashville, Tennessee where they raised their three children. After the kids all graduated from college in Nashville, Bettye moved back to Austin. She was able to buy the home of her dreams in Westlake Hills, with a remarkable view where she enjoyed countless sunsets. Throughout her life, Bettye had an undying love of language, nature and her kids and grandkids. Survivors include daughter, Elizabeth Mattfield; sons, Charles Vance, Jr. and Anthony Vance; daughter-in-law, Carol Watson; grandchildren, Robert and Eric Vance and Blair, Melanie and Kellee Watson; business partner and friend, Jim Sackrider and his family; and friends and neighbors. We will all miss her. Memorial services are to be held at a later date; information will be available through All Faiths Funeral Services. In lieu of flowers, those who so desire may make a donation in Bettye's name to Greyhound Rescue of America, any organization promoting adult literacy or teaching English as a second language, or your favorite charity.
