Very late with this, but he was a neighbor and a great guy. Gone far too soon. A reminder to live every day well.

It was my pleasure to edit Michael's writing at DownBeat. He certainly had strong passion for jazz and blues and vividly expressed his love for music. Michael's unique voice will be missed.

Michael there are hardly the right words to say what you meant to Jackie and me.You always treated us and all around you with such respect that is was easy being your friend. You made Jackie's job easier while with the Express and we always enjoyed seeing you at other baseball games. You will be greatly missed but we all know you are in the Best Place.

I met Michael when my husband was working on The Lamb Magazine for him. We had mexican food and homemade guacamole. Michael was great at what he did and influenced the musical scene on so many levels. I will miss his articles and special way of looking at things.

Michael was a champion for the music and always encouraged us by showing up. I loved his humor and his wry comments. He was an avid listener and I even have an interest in baseball because of him.

Michael - I was fortunate enough to know you before the Express came to town and fortune enough to know you better at the ballpark. Thank you for making my world a brighter place. I will miss you.

I knew Michael from when he wrote for the Statesman - he and I communicated as I often responded to articles he wrote. He was a witty intellectual who loved life and the life he was living. He always had a smile and a hug for me. I will miss him so very much. I am honored to have had the privilege to know this wonderful man. Thank you Michael for making my world brighter.

I'll never forget the fun I had helping Michael and Nancy put issues of The Lamb music magazine together in the late seventies.

There was no bigger fan of baseball than Michael Point. He knew the Rangers, Astros, Express and Hooks like nobody else. I appreciate the passion and love for the game, in which he wrote. He was kind to my son and helped teach him the game. His contributions are many and he will be missed.

Michael was a great journalist and friend. His conversations were wide ranging, just a little bit crazy and always fun. We enjoyed talking baseball at the Dell Diamond and music at the Continental Club.
The Press Box won't be the same. Miss you, Michael.

Michael seemed to follow me to Corpus, Round Rock and Houston. I was rarely at an Hooks, Express or Astros game when I didn't see Michael with his mass of press credentials around his neck. I will greatly miss his welcoming presence at baseball games but know he will be watching from a better seat.

I recall the kind and gentle soul who walked through the often chaotic newsroom with a wry smile on his face and a kind word for anyone. He knew his baseball as well as he knew his jazz, and loved to talk about both. RIP.

Michael was a brilliant writer and good friend. We had many conversations on the state of baseball, the Astros, jazz and much more through the years. He was a tireless advocate for jazz in Texas and was one of the first to encourage me along my musical journey. You will be missed, my friend. Rest in peace and God bless.

Michael and I became friends before the initial--2000--season for the Round Rock Express. His passion for baseball and its people clearly matched his love of music and musicians. Michael and I spent many an hour in the Dell Diamons pr
ess box sharing stories and ideas and I miss him immensely. Godspeed brother

Michael loved baseball and music, especially jazz. I met him when he was publishing The Lamb, a Chronicle like paper, in Houston. Our shared interests formed the basis for a good friendship.
He was an intelligent man with great wit. He could capture the essence of an event or recording in a few sentences as well as anyone I have ever known. He was also a gentle man. In all the years I knew him I never saw him do a single violent thing.
I regret the last years were so hard on him. He deserved a better end to his life.

I've known Point since 1975 when we were wooing the same woman. He won, lucky devil. After we became close friends and confidants, sharing ups and downs. He was a brilliant writer, crackling wit, and we shared of love of excellent, but only excellent, fried shrimp. For eight years, we wrote for competing jazz magazines, when we finally totally agreed that editors were mostly ill-informed scaredy-cats, we admired each others work. He was a source of endless stories, and most of them, most of them were probably true. Most. (Even some of the ones about his time as the driver for blues legend Lightnin' Hopkins.) Point, you were a bit on the bristly side, but I will be forever grateful that I knew you, that we were friends. We were friends, weren't we? Rest in peace, brother.
