She was born February 21, 1927, in Stephenville, Texas, the second of three children born to Theron Andrew and Ima Cook Hensarling. She graduated as salutatorian from Stephenville High School. She attended Tarleton College where she was voted All Tarleton Girl and Miss Tarleton, was editor of the yearbook and was valedictorian of her graduating class. She next attended the University of Texas in Austin where she graduated with honors having completed in three years a BA degree in Psychology. She was then employed as a teacher in Pflugerville Elementary School in September 1947 and married the following October. She taught at Pflugerville for four years and worked on a graduate degree during the summer months, obtaining a master's degree in psychology in 1952. She was employed as an elementary teacher in Austin ISD for four years, 1951 to 1955. From 1962 to 1963 Mildred was employed as a preschool teacher at All Saints Episcopal Church.
In January 1968, Mildred returned to the University of Texas to take the courses required to become a school psychologist and was employed in that capacity by the Austin ISD from September 1968 through May 1984 when she retired. She then assisted her husband, Tom, with his accounting practice.
Mildred was active in the University Baptist Church for many years (since 1945) and served as a children's Sunday School teacher, as a deacon and on many committees.
She always had a great love for children and she valued education, a value which was instilled by her parents who were both teachers. Her greatest joy was her family, and she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas H. Nance, Jr., and by an infant son, Blake, by her parents, by brothers Nolan Hensarling and Charles Hensarling, by sisters-in law, Hilda Hensarling and Ann Hensarling, as well as a son-in-law, James Preuss.

She is also survived by six grandchildren: Damon, Kristen and Bradley Harrell and wife, Sarah; by Tiffany Sharp and husband Jonathan; and Zachary Nance and wife, Megan, and Alexandria Nance. Earlier today

Midge was not only a Sunday School teacher for our children but a quiet AISD professional I admired as a young administrator myself. Her smile and confidence in her professional abilities stood out.
