My sister, Laura, read that Millie had passed away and I was so very sad to hear this. Millie was a friend of our Mom's, a fellow WASP, and spoke at her funeral. We became friends with Millie after our Mom died and we so appreciated her spunk, guidance and friendship. She could share her war stories that would make you cry and laugh and would do so with a humility that would take your breath away. She was one genuine, lovely, fun, real lady and I will miss her dearly. Thank you, Millie, for being one of a kind and for all you did for everyone who had the pleasure of knowing you in their life.
My sincere condolences to Gail, Dennis, and Tom and their spouses, her grandchildren and all of her family. And to everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her.
I moved from Austin to New Mexico this past year and am so sorry I could not make her services. God bless you, Millie.

Losing another WASP is indeed a sad occasion. My Father, Rigdon Edwards, was a primary instructor for the
WASP. I have loved the WASP all my life. My condolences to the family. Sandra Edwards Spears, Sweetwater, TX

I first heard Millie's story three years ago, and had an article published in the Llano News (you can read it at http://www.llanonews.com/news/18656/. She was a great lady and a true American hero.

I was so very sorry to learn of Millie's passing. I knew her from her later years of tennis at the Courtyard. While I didn't have the pleasure of playing with her very often I always remembered her kindness and what a shear joy she was to be around. She was a wonderful inspiration to us "younger" tennis players. I just now learned of the amazing life she had. Her challenges and accomplishments were unmatched. She was truly an amazing woman!

Millie was already a "legend" on the tennis court when I had the privilege to know her and eventually play tennis with her group at the Courtyard. You knew you were okay when Millie was there because she took charge! She told me the story of a mixed doubles tournament that she was in and she needed a partner. There was this young, probably 6-8 year old that she asked to team up with her. It happened to be Andy Roddick! And she told the story with a chuckle the HE started to boss HER around on the court!! Nobody else could do that! So much laughter, so many sweet memories, Millie. Millie inspired everyone she met, me included. A life well lived. I am sorry that I will miss the memorial service because I am going to be out of town. My sympathies to the family.
