Nancy Cunningham Satterfield, age 88, died November 9, 2025 in Austin, Texas. Nancy was the daughter of William A. and Mary Bolling Cunningham. She is survived by sister Martha Funderburgh, her children Joe Jr. (wife, Alison), Mary (husband, John), Will, Julia (husband, Bret), and Carol (husband, Gary) and grandchildren, Rebecca Satterfield, Emma Satterfield, John Satterfield-Doerr, William Satterfield, David Satterfield, James Kendrick, Reed Kendrick, William Anglin, and Christopher Anglin, and great-grandson, Arthur Hawkins. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Isaac Joseph (Joe) Satterfield, her brother, William Cunningham, her sister, Betty Mitchell, and twin infant daughters, Jane and Nan.
Nancy grew up in Austin, Texas, and attended Austin College where she graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Biology in 1957. She received a Bachelor's of Nursing degree from Dominican College in Houston, Texas in 1972, and a Master in Public Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston in 1976. Nancy was especially proud of making the highest score in the state on the Pediatrics portion of the Nurse Licensing Exam, which she attributed to raising five children.
Nancy's career was in health care, and in caring for people in need. Along with a team of others, she was pivotal in starting and serving as administrator in clinics in underserved areas of Houston, Texas and in the mountains of north Georgia. Her work positively impacted the health of numerous people who could not have otherwise afforded health care.
Nancy and her husband, Joe, were also critical in the development and revitalization of several churches in the areas in which they lived, including Roswell and Big Canoe, Georgia, and Georgetown, Texas. Much of their work through the church involved the clinics started and administered by Nancy.
After Joe retired, he and Nancy spent time traveling the world and enjoying getting to know people from different cultures, as well as developing enduring friendships with their fellow travelers. The true loves of Nancy's life remained her husband, Joe, and her children and grandchildren. Nancy and Joe both delighted in having the grandchildren stay with them in Big Canoe, Georgia, and participate in local activities such as horse camp and playing at the rock slide.
A Celebration of Life will be held privately at a later date. If you would like to honor Nancy's passing, please consider a contribution to the William A. and Mary B. Cunningham Scholarship in Chemical Engineering,
