Paul Bergman Obituary

Paul Howard Bergman (March 10, 1959 - November 3, 2025), 66, of Georgetown, Texas, died after a sudden, short critical illness on November 3, 2025. Paul was born in Newton, Massachusetts to Adeline and Seymour Bergman. He graduated from Newton High School where his favorite memories were of playing baseball and spending time with a close circle of friends. After a year at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, he decided to follow his father's lead into the Boston shoe and leather industry just at the time the industry began to decline. In 1990, Paul decided to take a chance and head west to Austin, Texas where his sister lived. There he found a job that became his life's work, managing Big Star Bingo. Over thirty-five years Paul helped turn what began as a small bingo hall into one of the largest and most successful in Texas.
Besides his family, golf, and the New England Patriots, his greatest passion was for the Big Star customers. Their love for him and gratitude for the Big Star family he played a big role in creating has been clear in their responses to news of his death. The Big Star staff is also heartbroken; they speak about listening for his laughter and spirit that made the bingo hall more like home.
Paul is survived by his sister Janis Bergman-Carton (Evan), brother Richard Bergman, and cousins Nancy Temkin (Kenneth) and Stuart Bergman.
A celebration of Paul's life will be held at Big Star Bingo on November 16, 2025 at 2 p.m.
