Robert Jones Obituary

Robert Ray Jones, 56, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on September 8, 2025.
Born on December 20, 1968, Robert was deeply rooted in Central Texas and embodied the spirit of 20th-century Texas life. He spent most of his life in Austin, where he proudly supported and contributed to his community-volunteering for local parks, nonprofit events, and celebrating the city's unique culture. He could often be seen wearing a T-shirt honoring his favorite local radio stations, like KUT, or events such as Eeyore's Birthday.
Robert was a true renaissance man, gifted with wide-ranging talents and endless curiosity. Like his father, he was a skilled artist, and was proud to have collaborated on a number of projects, including signs and murals. He was an avid reader and lifelong lover of the arts, able to converse with ease about literature, music, history, science, and more. Robert was also at home under the hood of a car and on the open road, having driven across much of the country on countless road trips. His playlists reflected his eclectic spirit-blending Vivaldi, Jimmie Rodgers, Louis Armstrong, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Fela Kuti, Robyn Hitchcock, and Black Sabbath on a single drive. Quick-witted and full of stories, he delighted in making others laugh.
He had a profound love for the outdoors and every living creature. Robert was both a steadfast friend and a fierce defender of those in need. He had little tolerance for cruelty or selfishness and spoke his mind without hesitation. His honesty, loyalty, and big heart earned him friends from all walks of life, each of whom he cherished.
Robert is survived by his mother, Wilma; his beloved dog, Mickey; his siblings Kenny, Jessica, and John; and extended family. He was proud of them all. His warmth, humor, and fierce spirit will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
