Bob Merrifield raised the bar for professionalism as Division Chair for Behavioral Sciences at San Jacinto College South in Houston. At the same time, he had his hand on the pulse of the common man and related to his colleagues and the students, both as a scholar and as a fine human being. He was always ready to volunteer at Christmas time and ring the bell for the Salvation Army. Robert Merrifield was a Christian gentleman and a role model for all who knew him. It was a privilege to work with him.

The volunteers at Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic will miss Bob, beginning this week when he would have made his regular contribution to ensure educational access for students in Texas and across the nation. Bob enjoyed RFB&D for its service to learners and for its community of intellectually dynamic volunteers who shared his passion to nurture the life of the mind in themselves and RFB&D's subscribers. Bob's life of service as scholar, author, public servant, educator, and volunteer was a most fitting gift to others by a man whose intellect was keen and whose heart was full.
