Robert Nauert Obituary
Robert (Bobby) Wayne Nauert, 89, went to be with Jesus on September 13, 2025. He was born on August 29, 1936, in Pflugerville, Texas, to Julia Wendland Nauert and Herbert Martin Nauert. Bobby was baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dessau on Christmas Day, 1941.
Bobby was a proud graduate of Pflugerville High School, where he played 6-man football and helped lead his team to regional titles in 1952 and 1953. He graduated in 1954 and went on to earn a degree in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 1960. He also served nine years in the U.S. Army Reserves, receiving an honorable discharge in 1962.
In 1960, Bobby married the love of his life, Joyce Arlene Burrell, whom he met at Barton Springs Pool in Austin. They shared sixty-five wonderful years of marriage, full of love, laughter, and family.
Bobby dedicated over 40 years to the Texas Highway Department, serving in Georgetown, Bastrop, and Austin. He spent the final decade of his public service as the District Construction Engineer in the Austin headquarters, retiring in 1993. He later continued his professional journey with Hunter Industries from 1994 to 2007. He also enjoyed working in real estate from 1982 to 2014 with his good friend George Reinemund-an adventure filled with stories and camaraderie.
After his initial retirement, Bobby took a year to build his dream home in Pine Forest, which became a gathering place for family and friends to celebrate special occasions, cheer on the Longhorns, and enjoy each other's company. Bobby was known for his ability to make everyone feel welcome-he never met a stranger.
He was an avid athlete, playing baseball and softball in local leagues in Austin and Bastrop, and later devoting himself to golf. He was a long-time member of Pine Forest Golf Club and later played regularly at Colovista with his men's group. His passion for golf took him across the country and abroad, playing in California, Hawaii, Florida, Las Vegas, and even Ireland. He had two holes-in-one-one at Pine Forest and another at The Inn of the Mountain Gods in Ruidoso, New Mexico, where he and Joyce spent a week every year at their condo.
Bobby was also a lifelong Longhorn fan, attending countless football and baseball games. One of his favorite pastimes was saltwater fishing in Rockport, Texas, where he spent many weekends on his boat with family and friends.
He was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Bastrop since 1963, where he served on the church board, several committees, and was a member of the Methodist Men's group. His faith was important to him, and he especially loved singing hymns.
Bobby is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Nauert, and their children: Debra Kay Nauert Murray and her husband John of Mansfield, Texas, and Chris Alan Nauert and his wife Monica of Dripping Springs, Texas. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Corey Murray, Kaylee Murray, Connor Nauert, and McKenna Nauert.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Elizabeth Julia Hilton, Lois Laverne Orsak, Tommie Nell Neuenschwander, Jean Simpson, Herbert Martin Nauert Jr., and Joyce Ann Norton.
Bobby spent the last year of his life in memory care at New Haven, where, true to form, he remained a friend to everyone for as long as he could. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at New Haven Memory Care for their devoted care and kindness.
Bobby was known for his generous spirit, his love of entertaining, and his deep connection with family and friends. He brought joy wherever he went and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Bastrop on Saturday October 18, 2025 at 2 p.m. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bobby's memory to the First United Methodist Church of Bastrop or to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
