Ruby Dooley Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

Mrs. Ruby Brumbelow Dooley, a long-time resident of Austin, died on Tuesday, June 8, 2004. She was born in rural Alabama on August 9, 1917, to Joseph Carl and Allie Brumbelow. Mrs. Dooley later moved with her parents, brother and three sisters, to Tyler, Texas. From 1928 to 1934, she attended the Texas School for the Deaf in Austin. It was there that she met her husband, Frederick Charles Dooley. They married in June of 1940, and after spending the war years in California, returned to Austin in 1951. Mrs. Dooley was a homemaker for many years, and then worked at the Texas School for The Deaf for twenty years retiring in 1982. She and Fred enjoyed their retirement and traveled extensively, visiting Alaska, New York, Mexico and various places in between. Since Fred refused to fly over oceans, she went to Hawaii and a tour of Japan, China and the countries in the far East with family and friends. Her daughter, Penny Harrell, predeceased her in 1999, as well as her husband, in 1987. She is survived by her sister, Adena Goodson of Dallas, Texas, daughter, Cherie King of Wimberley, Texas, three grandchildren, Chelby King of Houston, Ben Harrell and wife Tracey, of Albuquerque, NM, and Joshua King of San Antonio, as well as two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Christina Harrell, also of Albuquerque. She will be fondly remembered for her generosity, her love of family and friends, appreciation for a good joke, and capacity to keep her house spotlessly clean. The family will receive friends Friday, June 11, 2004 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 12, 2004, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
