Sara Keefauver Obituary

Sara Quinn Keefauver Sara Quinn Keefauver, 87, of Austin, Tx, left this world to meet her Savior in heaven on July 10, 2011. She was born on September 29, 1923, in Norfield, Mississippi, to Leslie and Nell Quinn. The youngest of four children, she had two sisters, Nell Marie and Evelyn, and one brother, Leslie. The family moved to McMinnville, Tennessee, where Sara grew up and finished high school and business college. Her father managed several Pure Oil gas stations in the city and brought his family up as devout Southern Baptists, even though Sara enjoyed dancing and playing cards. Sara took a secretarial job in Raleigh, North Carolina, then moved to Kingsport, Tennessee, to work for Eastman Kodak during World War II. It was there she met and married James Robert Keefauver, a carpenter and farmer from Johnson City, Tennessee. Jim and Sara moved in 1952 to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where they raised their three children. Sara worked for 20 years as a secretary with the Broward County School system. She and her husband were both recognized lay leaders at First Christian Church in Ft. Lauderdale and Parkway Christian Church in Plantation, for more than 40 years. Sara enjoyed bowling, golf, playing bridge, going out to eat, getting her hair done, and meeting with other believers for prayer, fellowship, and Bible study. She began each day with devotions and time alone with God. Despite their modest salaries and humble beginnings, Jim and Sara realized the importance of a good education, so they put all their children through college debt free. After 52 years of marriage, in 1997 Sara and her husband followed her daughter's family to Austin, Texas, where Jim died three months later. Sara has lived the last 13 years in Austin, sharing many happy times with family and church friends at Hill Country Bible Church. She is survived by her children: Larry and Judi Keefauver, Tom and Cathy Laws, Al and Kim Keefauver, and also by their families of seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her life will be celebrated at Hill Country Bible Church, 12124 RR 620 N, Austin, Texas, at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, July 12. Online guest book available at beckchapels.com.
