Sidney Barton Obituary

Sidney Alfred Barton, born on August 31, 1944, in Los Angeles, CA, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2024, in Round Rock, TX, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, love, and playful witticisms. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sue Barton, daughters Seanna Henry, Stephanie Raab, and Samantha Trimble, brothers August Fuchs and Lester Barton, 7 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Fuchs, and his father, Herman S. Barton.

Sidney's life was marked by service and duty. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a 3rd class Air Traffic Controller Petty Officer in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1965, followed by continued service in the Naval Reserve. After his military service, Sidney dedicated himself to law enforcement and retired from the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1998 as a Lieutenant.

Outside of his professional life, Sidney found solace in simple pleasures. He was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking, and had a passion for classic movies. But above all, he treasured his family deeply. In accordance with his wishes, Sidney's ashes will be scattered in the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean, a fitting tribute to his love of the sea.

In honor of Sidney's memory, contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, a cause that was close to his heart.

I served aboard the USS Hancock with Sid from 1963-65. He was a class guy and great friend. Always ribbing shipmates and making jokes, he was well known aboard the ship. Very serious about his duties but would spend teachable moments with us all. He was so young then and called himself a a "Kiddy Cruiser". I visited with Sid several times after he left the Navy and lived in Texas. My deepest sympathies to his wife and girls over their loss.
So long my friend and fair sails. See you on the other side where you are now, in the arms of God the father Almighty and his Son Jesus Christ.
