Kim, Mom Brandt & Mr Brandt,
I don't even know where to start. My prayers for strength and my deepest sympathy go out to you.

My reflections of Hannibal always seem to go back to the endless summers at the Community Pool and coaching swim team. Steve was a great part of those happy times. His quick wit and effortless ability to give me grief, a gift he undoubtedly attained from his sister, are some of my happiest memories. I miss you all.

Jim, Jan, Kim, and Ally,
Our hearts were so saddened with the news of Steve's passing. Dick has recounted many times how the street basketball games wore him out as he tried to outlast Kim, Steve, and Jack. It was a fond memory of Steve in the neighborhood. Our prayers are with you in this loss of a great young man.
Our love to you,

Val Martin

To the Brandt family,
My heart aches for you and your family during this time of incredible grief and sadness. I hadn't seen Steve since my cousin Ameet's wedding, but I remember that his eyes still sparkled the same at that time as they did all the years I knew him in Hannibal. I always look back with fondness at the swimming lessons that he gave me, the times we went boating in the summer, or the many hours he and Ameet spent at my home. I'll remember him always. He will be missed deeply.
My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

Mr. and Mrs. Brandt,
I just learned of Steve's passing today: There are no words to express how sorry I am for your loss. Steve hold's a very special place in my heart and I cherish many memories of him. I still have the picure of us together at our junior high dance. I cannot think of high school without thinking of Steve and the countless classes we shared sitting next to each other. Steve always made me laugh with his quick wit and humor. I will keep you in my prayers and Steve in my heart forever.

Mr. & Mrs. Brandt-

I never know how I'll react to the loss of a friend. Although we did not keep in touch, Steve always remained in my thoughts. I think back to the times we shared: history fair, swimming together, classes and raising cane together our senior year. I last saw Steve in 2003 at Ameet's wedding; after all that time I found that Steve was still the good-hearted, fun-loving friend of my youth. I will miss him. Please accept my most heartfelt condolences as well as the deepest sympathies of my family.

The Brandt family has been in our prayers since we heard that Steve had passed away. My children and I will always remember Steve as a motivating force on the side of the Williams Drive and Southwestern pools. His generosity with his time and his knowledge greatly influenced my daughter and today she swims on her high school varsity team in part because of Steve's commitment to the sport of swimming. God blessed many people with Steve's life and his influence will be felt for generations - no doubt my grandchildren will be swimmers. Our deepest sympathies and prayers will be with Steve's family in the coming days.

Dear Mrs. Brandt,

Sincerest condolences to you and your family. Steve was a wonderful young man. I met him when I took my twin daughters to visit Southwestern a year ago. He was a very impressionable young man who touched many lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Allyson, It has been five years or so since Steve taught me to swim at Emory. You were in your first or second year of triathlons at that point.

While that was the extent of my contact with Steve I am extremely saddened by the loss. He was an excellent instructor, and I could tell that he was a good guy..I admired the way he supported you in your endeavors...Have courage!

Mr. and Mrs. Brandt and family,

I was deeply saddened to hear about Steve's passing. While I hadn't talked to him in several years, I have many fond memories of him. It wasn't that long ago that we were walking around Hannibal, MO as Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher! Steve and I had many classes together throughout high school, and I remember being at your house on a few occasions to work on class projects. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time.

To the Brandt Family,
My heart was filled with sadness as I learned of Steve's passing last week. A loss of a loved one so young is something that we have a hard time dealing with. Steve was like a big brother to me growing up. There are many memories that I will hold on to and charish. He was a huge supporter of the sport of swimming and loved coaching it just like I do. Having known Steve made me a better person and I will always miss him. The lord works in mysterious ways. I know he is in a better place and will continue to cheer us on always.

I'll never forget my fond memories of Steve at Emory - he was truly an inspirational leader and a good friend to everyone who knew him. His passion and spirit were always evident in the fabric of Emory Swimming. My deepest sympathies and condolences to Ally and both families.

Mr. & Mrs. Brandt -

Words cannot express my heartfelt sympathy for the loss of Steve. I remember so vividly Steve and the boys at our house during their high school years and was so happy that Rich had such wonderful friends. I felt the same pride when Lawson and Steve were standing with Rich at his wedding. I am so sorry and wanted you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Sincerely,

Most people don't realize that bike racing is a team sport and requires team tactics to succeed. Steve understood this better than most and was one of the most selfless people I've ever met. He always gave his best, but more importantly, he always wanted a top result for the team. He imagined the team working together as a single unit so that a faceless Velossimo rider would cross the line for the victory.

Steve you will always be a part of our team, the Texas peleton, and give us warmth in our hearts with fond memories of our brief time with you. You are missed and loved.

Steve was that rare coach who inspired his athletes to be better not only for him, but for themselves. His unwavering support in and out of the pool made me not only a better swimmer, but a better person. My thoughts are with Ally and his family.
