I'm attempting to reach out to contact Cpl. Gill's family.
My son is part of a wrestling team in Wyoming that honors fallen soldiers by replacing their own name on their team shirts with a soldier no longer worth us.
My son is honored to represent Cpl. Gill this season and we would like to get in contact with family.
If anyone sees this could you please pass on the info and they are welcome to reach out to me if they'd like at
[email protected]
My son has worked hard this year to bring pride to Cpl. Gill. He's sitting 13-1 with several 1st place medals.
We would be so touched to share his success with this family.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and to also let the Gill Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one, Steven P. Gill US Marine Corporal. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Dear Gill Family, I served along Cpl Gill during his fateful deployment in 2005. I had the pleasure of having dinner with him his last Sunday on the base as they were getting ready to leave the upcoming week. Steve was unique because he was one of the Marines that always asked me for beanie babies and soccer balls to take along his patrols. I coordinated the donations of such as items from different sources in the States to Iraq. This Memorial Day I wanted to tell you all that I am thinking of him and those that paid the ultimate price. May God bless all of you.

Dear Gill Family,

My name is Joshua Moose and I had the pleasure and honor of serving with your son. I was a K-9 handler in Iraq and was attached to his unit during 2005. I want you to know that the Love for Steve is still alive and his memory is not forgotten. Every year since he left us I have set aside some time to remember him.
I now it has been tough of late with him and the loss of others. I want you to know that no matter what happens in life you cling on to the strong memories of life, that's what pushes us forward. I will remember Steve forever and I make sure my children and their children honor a warrior and a hero such as Steve. Thank you and Steve I love you brother thanks for watching out for all of us.

Dear Marines and Christian friends,

It has been 5 years since our precious Steve was killed. He was 30 on Nov. 3.
This Christmas season has been the most difficult for me. However, my Steve was a Christian and loved Jesus.
So he is in heaven at peace where there is no more sorrow , no more pain.

Please pray for the Gill family as we struggle through the Christmas season.

Dear Rose, it's nearly Christmas and I know your family is hurting just as much as ever. I want you to know I've been thinking of you a lot lately, and I do pray for you. I still remember how difficult it was for me to give you the book of condolences. I still choke up trying to tell the story to those who ask about the books. Your eyes said it all. I wish you'd keep in touch so I know how you're doing.

Rose - I want to thank you for raising such a wonderful family. I was lucky to have known Steve for a short while, and I am eternally greatful to Steve especially and to all that have fought for our country. Because of their bravery and the sacrifice of all the families, I have the freedom and life I treasure.

Thank you to all our soldiers and their families.

Dear Christian Friends and Family.

Today is Steve's 30th Birthday. So much saddness at losing him to war so young. But he believed in what he was doing and he is a True Hero.

Please continue to pray for the Gill Family, not a day goes by that I don't think of my precious son. Probably, by now he would be married and I would have some grandchildren!!!

Life is not fair and yet we know that Our Lord Jesus is our hope and strength
for we know were Steve is and he waits
for us to join him.

Thank you to those of you who still come by on the Anniversary of his death on 21 July. Hoping to see you at the G's Q's celebration next year.

Scubba Steve, I think about you constantly. Your advice and encouragement was one of the deciding factors for me joining the Navy, to become a Corpsman. God, I'd give anything... I wish i had your back. I just got out of Corps-school when you passed. I miss you. I see your father when ever I'm in RR. He always gives me a bug hug. to me, Bill is like a second father; we've laughed, cried and talked about life over glass of Glenfideich and rocks I still have the pictures of you and I. I'll be coming home soon. I got the colors encased for you and you dad.

For every good Marine, there's a Corpsman who's got their back.

Keep your head down.

Dear Gill family. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. I meet you Mr Gill the day your family came to the VFW Post 76. That day you laid Steven to rest. You and I talk a while about our sons. That was a touph day for you and I, My son was still in Iraq, And you did tell me he would come home, With all you were going through. Well Matthew did make it home. I guess Vince told you about us loseing Matthew this past june in AFG. Im still remember some of the things you told me back then on that day with Steven. I can tell you sir that you did help me get through our hard time. It's a shame that our young men, our sons pay that price for our freedom. I wish All of our countrymen loved our country the way our sons Loved their country. I hope some day they open their eyes and more come forward and start to HONOR our sons and Marines. Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Steven, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Rosie,
I was very saddened to hear about the death of your son. It was such a shock. I know from the way you speak of him and from the other entries in this book that he was a good man, a good Christian, a good son, a good friend. Evidently he touched many lives while he was alive, and continues to do so even after he is gone. I am truly sorry for your loss and my condolences go out to you and your family. I want you to know you can count on me whenever you want to talk about Steven. I would love to hear more about him. God Bless You and let's keep in touch!

Dear Marines and Friends,
As Thanksgiving is upon us, the loss of my precious son, Steve , is unbearable. At a time when families will be together, we, the Gill family feel the loss. America please know that "Freedom isn't Free" and Steve paid the ultimate price willingly so that all of us could enjoy the holidays in freedom. I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I just wanted to say that I recognize the hero your son is (was) as I am sitting here in tears reading these letters from this weeks Newsweek magazine. As soon as I finished reading Steve's letter I googled his name and city/state and this website appeared. I am a born-christian woman and I could feel how much your son loved the lord in just the few sentences that he expressed it. I know he is in one of the mansion in one of the many rooms god has prepared for us. God Bless you and your family and I'm so sorry for your loss. I have to say I am really glad that Newsweek published the letters because "we" collectively, the U.S. are aware that we are at war and our men and women service members are over there, but, to be reminded and shown that they JUST aren't 'number count' and that they have hand writing and penmanship and a photograph that goes along with it is absolutely reality at it's best. Praying for you. Your sister in Christ.........

Not that our pains or worse but that they are the same a Mother who has lost her beloves son. The son who gave us the gift of being called Mother. God Blessed me when he sent you to be my friend. I bet Steven was a lot like you when he walked this earth. I know he was a true gift to others and I thank him for his ultimate sacrifice. You are a very couregeous and loving friend, Rose, and even though we had to meet under heavy hearted circumstances, our friendship is a positive situation that came about through the death of our babies. Dear Family and Friends,
It has now been 19 months since my precious Steve joined Jesus. The pain is still there and sometimes it is overwhelming!!! I ran the USMC Marathon and thanks to all of you we raised $3200 for the troops at Brooks Army Medical Center at Fisher House. I am registered to run in 2007 and once again will run as the Cpl. Gill Memorial running team. Steve was so excited when he was in Iraq, to return and run the USMC Marathon. Well, he runs with his mom every year until I die!!! Don't be stranger and keep on praying for the Gill Family. Yes, Jesus still loves all of us. Rose Camero - Gill, Mother of Marines

“Paid in Full”
To Honor The Service of Fallen and Injured Marines

Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full

We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward

What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give it all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our hearts we will cherish your lives

Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the Few, the Proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us

They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of the lives that were lost for people unknown

Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

Dear Marines and Christian Friends,
It is now 15 months since my precious son, Steve, has joined Jesus. I am preparing to run the USMC Marathon in DC in his honor. We are the Cpl. Gill memorial running team and we will run our hearts out because Steve will be right there with us. His final letter will be read the night before we run. I would like to thank all of you for your support and your prayers, the pain is still raw but Steve did his job as a US Marine and he loved his Lord Jesus very much. He also loved his country. Please don't be strangers, I have returned to Round Rock and I am living in my old home. Call me any time. 512 -775 0701 or email [email protected] And I can still say Jesus love me this I know!!! You are such a strong woman and God has plans for you. The countless lives you have touched since Steve's death are endless...and there isn't a day I pass your house without saying a prayer for you and thinking of your loss. Thank you for letting me sign your flag. May God bless you as you continue pushing forward. Rose Marie Jones, MSGT, USAF Retired

Dear Marines and Christian Friends,

Semper Fi, it is now 13 months since our beloved son, brother, and friend Cpl. Steven Gill went home to Jesus. I still cry, but not every day. You will never know how much it means to me to read your kind words and know that you still remember our family. I am currently raising $3000 for the burn unit (Fisher House Foundation) at Brooks Army Medical Center in memory of Steve. We will be running the Marine Corps Marathon 06 as the Cpl. Gill Memorial running team. If you would like to contribute $5 please email me or call me. Our Lord Jesus is still faithful!!!! Steve's Mom, Rose Camero-Gill, [email protected] 512 775 0701

Dear Marines and Christian Friends,

It has now been 11 months since we lost our beloved Steve. We still hurt very much. James and Bill have moved to Las Vegas, and I have moved to Canyon Lake. Bill and I are now divorced. Please continue to pray for us. This by far has been the greatest trial of my life. I have met many, many wonderful Christian and military friends. I have travelled to DC four times promoting my son and the military. It is my hope that he will receive a Bronze Star with a V for Valor for his courage. Please continue to stay in touch with me. And I can still say Jesus loves me this I know.

Mr. & Mrs. Gill,

Although I didn't know your son personally, I know what a fine young man he was. As a Marine Dad, I've had the honor of meeting many young Marines. Men like your son represent the best of our country. Take comfort in knowing that he truly believed in his mission, and lived his life with honor. After reading some of the other guest book entries, I couldn't help but be impressed with how many lives he touched. What a hero!

Dear Mrs. Gill,

You spoke yesterday at Westwood High School and I was in one of the student groups. I was very touched by your story and how many lives Steven positively influenced. I would be very honored to help you visit Veterans' Hospitals, and carry on Steven's legacy. I think what you are doing is wonderful and I commend you for your endurance and willingness to inform others about what the media can't. I hope to hear from you soon,

Rose, Bill and James ~

I just found out today. My heart is breaking for you, but I know you are comfoted by knowing that Stephen is with Jesus - there is no doubt about that! I can't believe it's been over 12 years since we met a warm, friendly, handsome boy who brought so much fun and friendship into our son's life. You are, no doubt, very proud of Stephen's dedication and love of God, family and country. I am praying for you and I thank God for Stephen and all of you! Paula Warden

To Mrs. Rose Gill and Family,

You are in my prayer and the prayers of my congregation. We give honor to Steven for his service to our country.

The shield of God's presence covers you from every side. He protects you in the midst of every difficult thing you face. The assurance that comes from God is like a gentle hand, placed under your chin, that lifts your head so that your eyes can gaze into His face. In that gaze you see the strength of His character..the love of your Father...and the depth of his caring heart.

In love and prayer,

To the Gill Family,

Such sadness was received today, August 11, from my long time friend Bill Gill regarding the death of his son. Many years ago when we worked together, how often we spoke of our family. As the years have past, our lives have taken many directions. Truly we are left with memories. May our Heavenly Father always provide the Gill family with found memories and take pride in knowing the gratitude of all Americans and people all over the world who respect the sacrifices made by our young people in uniform protecting the freedoms we sometimes take for granted.

I never had the priviledge of meeting your noble son, but our sons knew one another and served together here and earth and now they serve together in Heaven. May God's love and mercy shine on you during this time.

Dear Christian Family, Friends, and Marine Family,

It has been almost 3 weeks since our beloved Cpl. Steve Gill went home to Jesus. I have finally been able to log on to this site, and read all the wonderful words of comfort provided by each and every one of you. I lost a precious son, my baby, however, Steve died doing what he wanted to do. First, Steve served his Lord Jesus, He was about the business of handing out Arabic Bibles at base in Iraq, and second Steve was about the business of "taking care of American freedom" as a special forces U.S. Marine!!!! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who particiapted in Steve's Resurrection celebration, every expression of kindess, every person that stood on the road as Cpl. Gill's final journey to Ft. Sam Houston took place is loved as fellow Americans!!! Our beloved Steve is home with Jesus and awaits our homecoming with him. Semper Fi!!! We love you fellow Americans, Rose Gill,( Still and always a mother of U. S. Marines, and mother of James D. Gill, U. S. Army National Guard,)

To the little boy I have known since you were 6 months old, playing at my home, always full of joy and inquisitive. To this fine young man who became the kind of Son we would all want to have, and then to this Proud Marine who honored us with service to our Country. You represented all that was good and kind and loving and gave us the faith to live our lives not in fear because of your service to our Country. I shall cherish all the memories of your life and thank you for sharing your short life on earth with me.

As you sit on the Throne of God today, may this blessing encourage your family in this very difficult time. Steve I shall miss you and love you with all my heart always.

Steve was a hero in more ways than can possibly be listed in so short a space as this entry. He touched lives in many ways, including those of my children at King of Kings during his youth ministry activities. We all remember him fondly and are eternally thankful for his service to his country and to each one of us.

Steve, you are with our Lord now... please continue to watch over us until we can say Hooah! to you again one day in Heaven.

With much affection and sympathy --

My Dearest Steven,

There are no words to describe just how much I miss you. You have taught me so many things about life, love, friendship and God. I am truly grateful and honored to have known you for the past 6 years. God certainly blessed the broken road that led me to you. I will always cherish the time we’ve spent together and I look forward to the day when I will see you again. You have my heart. I love you – forever and always.

To the Gill family: My sympathy and love goes out to you. My husband, John, was one of Steven's instructors a few years ago in San Antonio. John always took great pride in watching out for his Marines and I promise you, now that Steven has joined him, John will continue to look out for a fellow Marine. I'm so sorry for you loss.

God Bless,
