Susie Gresham Fults passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, after a lengthy and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Susie grew up in the close-knit community of Wharton, Texas. Known for her spirited and tomboyish nature, Susie was often found competing with the boys in town – running just as fast, if not faster, than most. She shared a special bond with her beloved horse, Paint, and together they took part in local rodeo parades, creating cherished memories. Susie developed deep and lasting friendships during her school years and was devoted to maintaining those connections in her adulthood through regular communication and high school reunions. From a young age, her strong faith guided her and remained a steadfast source of comfort and strength throughout her life.
A gifted student, Susie graduated as Salutatorian of her high school class while playing flute in the school band and serving as a cheerleader. She went on to attend the University of Texas School of Business, earning her Bachelor of Business Administration in just three and a half years. During her time at UT, she was honored as BBA Sweetheart and met the love of her life, James E. "Buddy" Fults. The two married in August 1962, beginning a wonderful journey together that would span 63 years.
Susie worked diligently after college while Buddy completed his degree. In 1965, they welcomed their first child, and Susie fully embraced her most meaningful role as a devoted stay-at-home mother to their three sons. Her faith remained at the heart of her life, and she was proud to serve as a deacon at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Once Susie and Buddy became empty-nesters, Susie jumped feet first into her many hobbies. She had a passion for photography, hunting, and many outdoor activities, especially hiking. One photo she submitted to the Texas State Fair earn a 1ST Place Blue Ribbon. Buddy and Susie enjoyed hunting season in South Texas. Susie was thrilled when a deer she harvested won second place (Women's division) in the Los Cazadores World' Largest Whitetail Deer Contest. She and her hiking friends explored trails across the U.S. and Europe, creating treasured memories along the way.
After Buddy's retirement, the couple made a second home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This was a wonderful time in their life together, enjoying the cooler Santa Fe summers and time with friends and family in bother Austin and Santa Fe. This chapter brought new friends and adventures, and their love for each other deepened with time.
