Born in Salt Lake City and raised in Houston, Tom made his home - and his life - in Austin, surrounded by fun, friends, music, and an enduring devotion to his wife, Dr. Cynthia Curll Brinson, the love of his life for 38 years.

Tom will be remembered for his towering 6'8" height, his good-natured struggle with door frames, and the fact that no standard bed could ever quite contain him. But even more memorable was his wit and intelligence, which could light up any room. His kindness, humor, and loyalty showed up often among his wide circle of friends, who will miss him dearly.

A software pioneer and talented computer animator, Tom easily transitioned into the role of business manager when duty called. Still, his greatest passion was music. A perennial fan of the Kerrville Folk Festival, he often brought along his guitars and sound equipment in his vintage Airstream, which also carried him to his beloved Lost Maples.

For years, Tom held court late into the night at his favorite Austin bars, surrounded by friends who knew they'd always be heard. He was a great listener, a true companion, and a generous spirit.

Cynthia extends heartfelt thanks to Zara Basharat and Kristi Malicoat from Practical Care Continuum for their wonderful care, and to Christopher House for their mission, kindness and compassion.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden on November 23, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tom loved Japanese food, music, Jameson's, love and good conversation. That's what we will have!

In the meantime, memorial contributions may be made in Tom's honor toward a bench or other memorial at Pease Park, where he loved to walk his best friend, Lulu. Donations may be made to:
