William Stillman Obituary

William (Bill) Mead Stillman, 85, passed away on October 19, 2025. Bill was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on December 1, 1939, to W. Mead Stillman and Elizabeth (McKone) Stillman.
Bill grew up in Oshkosh where he attended the Campus School. He graduated from The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, NJ, in 1959 and from the University of Wisconsin (Madison) with a business degree in 1963. He was a member of the Chi Psi fraternity. Loving people as he did, he made life-long friends everywhere along the way.
Bill began his career in the insurance industry at Kansas City Life Insurance Company (KCL) in Kansas City, Missouri, where he worked in the investment department. During this time, he earned the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). Bill served on Board of Directors of Kansas City Life and Johnson County National Bank and Trust Company. In 1983 Bill moved to Houston, Texas, to work for American General Life Insurance Company until his retirement in 2002.
In 1998, Bill and his wife, Shirley, visited Sun City in Georgetown, Texas, fell in love with the community and built a home there. They commuted between Georgetown and Houston each weekend for several years and felt returning to Sun City each weekend was like going to a resort. They became full time residents of Sun City when Bill retired, and as a couple made many dear friends in the community over the years.
Bill was known for his kindness and generosity to others. If someone needed help, Bill was there. Given his interest in tools, gadgets, and fixing things inherited from his father, he was eager to help his neighbors and friends with their projects. He was an avid model train, truck and plane collector, and he thoroughly enjoyed running the trains for guests, especially children. He spent much of his life on the water in Oshkosh on Lake Winnebago and in Kansas on Lake Perry boating, sailing, and water skiing. He gained a passion for feeding the birds from his mother, and would enjoy watching them at his feeder. He loved listening to music, organizing and making playlists he shared with friends and family. Shirley's devotion to the Yankees rubbed off on Bill, and they loyally watched all the games through thick and thin.
Bill leaves his wife of 33 years, Shirley L. Stillman, his sons William H. Stillman, Scott M. Stillman (Lisa), grandsons Brandon H. Stillman, Nicholas M. Stillman, and Christopher M. Stillman, sister Susan Stillman Kane (John), and brothers-in-law Harry E. Meyer and John J. Lauff. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Stillman Meyer, his daughter-in-law Tracy A. Stillman and grandson W. Andrew Stillman.
A celebration of life will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 510 Luther Drive, Georgetown, TX at11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025. He will be buried in his hometown of Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
