Fernando Mickey Montgomery, age 30, a 26-year resident of Kettle Falls, Washington, passed away on Sept. 20, 2021, at his Kettle Falls home.
Fernando was born on Jan. 14, 1991, in Sand Point, Idaho, the son of Mickey Gene and Yolanda (Quero) Montgomery.
He moved at the age of 3 with his family to Kettle Falls. There, he entered kindergarten and, in 2009, graduated as a 12-year senior from Kettle Falls High School.
Throughout high school, Fernando protected the Bulldogs quarterback from the center's position. His passion for football continued into college as he played for the Trinity Lions as an offensive guard and center.
Fernando graduated from Trinity Bible College in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in ministry and minor in coaching. He returned to Kettle Falls where he began working as a youth pastor at the Kettle Falls Assembly of God Church.
He assisted in many roles within the church, including youth, sound and technology, Associate Pastor and board member.
Fernando also shared his passion for the game of football as an assistant coach for his Alma Mater, the Kettle Falls Bulldogs.
His coaching approach was without raised voice and included constant praise for his young athletes. He had a special place in his heart for each team and they, in turn, offered the same.
His ministry for Christ was present and practiced both on the field and off.
Fernando loved building personal relationships with others, which bridged from family to friendship afar.
He encouraged and helped to inspire family reunions and rarely missed an opportunity to share time with his parents on a daily basis.
Friendships he held strongly to no matter whether across the U.S. or right next door.
He invested his heart in every person he met with a gentle kindness and humble appreciation for the smallest offering in return.
Fernando looked up to his father, held his mother in reverent regard and never parted them without an "I love you."
He enjoyed taking to the road on his Honda 700 automatic motorcycle and with a roll of the throttle, a roar of the motor and a rumble of the seat… he will forever cruise in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Fernando was preceded in death by his grandparents.
He is survived by his parents, Mickey and Yolando Montgomery, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The funeral service for Mr. Fernando Mickey Montgomery will begin at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021, at the Kettle Falls Middle School Gymnasium. A graveside service will follow at the Meyers Falls Cemetery in Kettle Falls.
