Joseph Dufresne Obituary

Joseph A. Dufresne, aged 82, passed away on May 21, 2024. Born in Cohoes, NY on April 4, 1942, Joe, found his forever home in Northport, WA, where he wove himself into the fabric of the town, leaving a legacy of community spirit and lifelong residency.

Joe served honorably in the Coast Guard, dedicating himself to the safety and security of our nation's waters. After his military service, he continued his career in communication as a Radio Officer on merchant ships, a role in which he excelled due to his sharp mind and ability to connect with others. Joe had a profound love for the sea, which was a constant source of inspiration and comfort throughout his life.

Joe's creative spirit was evident in his love for storytelling, writing, and poetry, and he often captivated his friends and family with his written stories and narrated tales. An avid reader, he found solace and adventure in books, which complemented his journey in life. Joe had an inventive mind and loved to tinker. He also enjoyed playing cribbage, listening to music, watching musicals, and embarking on adventures. Above all, spending time with his loved ones brought him the greatest joy.

He is survived by his children, Beth, Sara, and Joseph; grandchildren, Mary, Katherine, Christopher, Carson, Morgan, Eloise, and Alden; great-grandchildren, Augustine, and Gabriel; and siblings, Robert, Sharon, and Nancy. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Florence.

A memorial service will be held in Northport, WA, in the fall of 2024, where family, friends and those touched by Joe's life can come together to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice House of Spokane, a cause close to Joe's heart, reflecting his desire to support others in their time of need. Joe's legacy will live on through the stories he shared, the lessons he taught, and the loving memories he created with those around him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
