Lewis "Louie" Glen Delp, a lifetime resident of the Kettle Falls and Boyds area, passed away at his home on Deadman Creek Rd. on May 16, 2015 at the age of 86. Louie was born on Jan. 6, 1929 in Marcus to Albert Glen and Margaret (Anderson) Delp.
Louie attended school in Marcus until around the age of nine when the family moved to Deadman Creek. He completed the seventh grade at the Deadman Creek School. At the age of17, he married his first wife, Margaret Snider, and they had eight children together.
In 1946, Louie went to work for Avey Brothers Lumber Company on Jackknife Mountain. The mill was eventually moved to Kettle Falls, where he spent the remainder of his working carrier. Boise Cascade had purchased the mill several years after its relocation. Louie worked his way up to become the sawmill superintendent. He retired in 1986.
Louie was a well-known and loved member of his community, lending a helping hand to his neighbors. He was always there to help, whether it was helping them build their homes and barns or helping with cutting and baling hay. He was a farmer and rancher who loved his cattle. He was able to keep them up until his death with the help of his son.
Louie was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers, Frankie Ray and Jack; four sisters, Annie, Lola, Sal, and Grace; five brothers, Bill, Bob, Dick, Kenny and Ted; two grandsons, Marcus Lewis and Brian L.; and his second wife, Margaret (Peggy) Delp.
He is survived by his third wife, Kathrine (Flower) Delp; two sisters, Mary Sletten of Colville; Linda Shaw and husband, Buck, Kettle Falls; WA; brother, Jim Delp, Pomeroy; eight children, Wayne Delp and wife Nina, Addy; Wanda Olsen and hus¬band, Vern, Colville; Darlene "Dolly" Black and husband, Will, Wasilla, AK; Gordon Delp and wife, Lil, Kettle Falls; Robert Delp and wife, LeeAnn, Newport; Lonna "Tootie" Garris and husband, Bill, Colville; Mary Runkel, Colville, and Terry Delp and wife, Tara, Kettle Falls; 37 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
The highlight of his life was when family and friends came to visit, sharing home cooking, swapping old and new stories, jokes, colorful old songs and lots and lots of laughter. His favorite saying was "I will live forever and you will never die."
Funeral service for Mr. Delp will begin with a graveside service at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 30 at the Meyers Falls Cemetery in Kettle Falls. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the Kettle River Grange.
