Born June 2, 1941 in Spokane, Washington, Richard "Dick" Swanson passed away March 13, 2020, after a long battle with colon cancer.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carole (Jedel) Swanson and parents Arthur F. Swanson and Doris (McClerg) Swanson.
Dick grew up throughout Eastern Washington. He graduated from Connell High School in 1959.
He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1960 becoming an Outstanding Trainee and Expert Marksman with the M-1 rifle.
He moved to Colville, Washington, in 1961, and worked at Barmans Hardware for several years.
In 1965, he married Carole Jedel. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2015.
He became a crew supervisor for the Youth Ranch and Department of Natural Resources, building campgrounds, cruising timber, and fighting fire, retiring in 2003. After retirement, he served as Fire Commissioner for Stevens County District #7.
An avid outdoorsman, Dick loved to hunt and fish, and was an excellent marksman, winning numerous trophies.
He is survived by sister Susan Swanson Kieswetter (James), cousin Roger James (Donna), sister-in-law Faye McAviney, nephew Donovan Jedel, and nieces Cammie Storey, and Kathy Niles.
Richard was laid to rest at the Mountain View Park Cemetery on August 23, 2021.
