Adah Olive Rayburn Carson
November 5, 1922 - May 23, 2014
Long-time Salem resident Adah Carson passed away peacefully on May 23, 2014.
Adah Olive Rayburn was born on the same day and year as her schoolmate and future husband Joseph M Carson of 62 years, November 5, 1922. Adah was born in Salem, Oregon to Harry Rayburn and Hazel Lee George and grew up with her brother Ralph G. Rayburn.
The family moved to Waldport, Oregon and Adah was valedictorian of Waldport High School in 1940. She attended Oregon State University for one year, leaving school to care for her ailing father.
She devoted her life to caring for her 7 children: Ken and wife Shelly Carson of Corona, CA; Susan and husband Dennis Henderson of Mt Shasta, CA; Michael and wife Karen Carson of Fayetteville, NC; Jean and husband Glen Grant of Cholame, CA; Patricia Alderson of Salem, OR; Gary and wife Lauralee Carson of McKinney, TX; and Steven and wife Teresa Carson of Eugene, OR. She was truly at-home being a wife, mother and grandmother.
Adah developed a great many friends and endearing neighbors throughout multiple family relocations in Oregon and California. She and Joe moved back to Salem in 1986 where they made multiple retirement trips with the Salem Geological Society, Oregon Cattleman's Society and the Salem First Church of the Nazarene. She was a staple of multiple Waldport HS, USS Ringgold (Navy) and Waldport/Yachats area reunions. She lived in Salem for 27 years. She resided for the past 5 months in Eugene in the loving care of 'Our Home'.
Adah has 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She has one remaining sister in-law, Della Rae Carson, of Beaverton, and one remaining cousin, Wilena Lee "Willie" Bamper of Fullerton, CA. Her brother Ralph passed away in 1997.
Memorial Services 11am Saturday May 31, Salem Nazarene Church 1550 Market, Salem, OR. Viewing 4-6pm Sat May 31, at Bateman Funeral Home, Newport, Oregon. Graveside Services 2 pm Sunday June 1st, Upper Yachats Cemetery (Carson Cemetery), mp 5 Yachats River Rd. Any donations will be sent to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Bateman Funeral home is handling arrangements.
