Charles Walker Obituary

Charles L. "Chuck" Walker

September 17, 1956 - August 2, 2012

SALEM - Chuck was the eldest of three children born to Laurence and Alexandra Walker in Tacoma, Washington. He married Tina Patee in 1981 and they raised two sons, Steven and Alexander, in Portland. After divorce in 2004, Chuck married Mary Jo Polette in 2006, and made his home with her on her llama/alpaca farm- "Daffodil Hill" in Salem.

Chuck was an accomplished marine electrician for several years before entering the electrical apprenticeship. In 1991, he joined the City of Portland, maintaining street lighting systems and traffic signal controls. In 2004 he was promoted to Supervisor of Signals and Street Lighting for the City of Portland. He held this position at the time of his death. He was a proud member of the IBEW Local 48 union for more than 30 years.

Chuck treasured cruises and travel adventures. In 2009, he discovered his maternal family in Germany, and Europe became a favorite destination. He learned to take care of llamas and alpacas, and was a member of the Willamette Valley Llama Association Board of Directors, and also sat on the Board of Directors for the NW Camelid Foundation. He was a self-proclaimed "Cosmic Rocker". His music collection included thousands of songs, vinyl albums and CD's. He loved music from the 70's and 80's; there wasn't a Frank Zappa tune he couldn't recite the words to. He had an incredible knowledge of old cars. He knew years, engine sizes, particular features and differences among models from the 40's to 70's. His pride and joy was his 2009 Z06 Corvette.

His real passion was riding sportbikes. He believed that 4 wheels moved the body, but 2 wheels moved the soul. He considered himself a Master Motorcycle rider, and used the stage name "Mid Valley Super Biker" with his Salem club of sport bike riders, The Hooligans. His skill and experience as a rider were valued by members. It is with sad irony that he lost his life doing the thing he loved most . . . riding his Ducati.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo of Salem, sons Steven (Billie Jo) and Alexander, sister Sandra Heys all of Portland; sister Cathleen (Troy) McGee of Athena; Linda (Merle) Peper of Arlington, Washington; many nieces and nephews, numerous German aunts, uncles, cousins, and his beloved German Shepherd, Axel.

A final motorcycle ride with Chuck is planned on Thursday, August 9th at 6:30 pm, starting at the Park and Ride at I-5 exit 248. A service and celebration of life will follow at 7 pm, City View Funeral Home Chapel, 390 Hoyt St. S., Salem. Private burial will be held at Mountain View Cemetery, Forest Grove. Suggested memorials in Chuck's name may be made to NW Camelid Foundation, Team Oregon or the American Diabetes Association.

Chuck was an amazing man who truly lived life to its fullest. He loved and was loved by everyone who knew him. The world is a better place for having had him in it. Riding will never be the same without you, Chuck. You are deeply missed dear friend. Until we meet again.

MJ, Alex, Steven and the rest of Chuck's family are in our thoughts.

With love,

Everyone dies.
Not everyone lives.
CHUCK LIVED.
He continues to live on with Mary Jo and the rest of us. Their life together should be an example for us.

IN MEMORIA CECIDIT FRATER - for he is truly a brother.

The time was to short and the moments to few that you embraced us with your presence in the little time we knew you.
You will be dearly missed Chuck but I know you will be watching over us.

We Love You Chuck! Ride in peace always??

His soul shines through in his actions
Also the words that come from his mouth
The people that he truly loves
They are often very few
But they all know who they are
They know for them the things he'll do
He will be there for his children
No matter what the cost
He'll also be there for his woman
*When she needs him most*
He's there for his brothers and his sisters*
*With a quick joke and a brew* He's also there whenever you need
*Is just so easy to talk to*
*There are few men like this*
*Weather you search far or wide*
*It is a terrible tragedy*
*When a Brother like this, takes his final ride*
*But a man such as this*
*Even after he is gone*
*Has not left you alone at all*
*Cause his spirit will carry on*
*He'll be there when you wake up*
*On a bright sunny, summer day*
*His memories will always make you smile*
*When your world has turned to gray*
*There's pain in your heart now*
*cause youÂ'll never again hear him say*
*“Come on Cheer the hell up man”*
*Or
*“Let's roll some miles away”*
*But know when you roll out*
*To take off for a ride*
*HeÂ'll bethere beside you*
*His spirit riding by your side*
*Know that your brother*
*On heavens roads will now roll*
*On his brand new two wheels
*That he fabricated from heaven's gold*
*Then just think of the day*
*That you will see him again*
*He'll be at the gates to
welcome us all home
*Wearing that Big OlÂ' Southern Grin*

My son, Nate was there on the road and witnessed the accident. He was deeply torn by Mr. Walker's death but felt comfort in that his "buddies" were right behind him. My son said if he had to go he would want his buddies to be behind him so they weren't the ones hurt. Many blessings to all and may there be peace for the family.

I am so glad that I had the possibility to meet my Cousin Chuck twice. Immediately I had a warm feeling in my heart like you just have it for family.

So many memories. A man who truly loved his life. He shared that love with everyone. Was there for me in ways that are exceptional. I am grateful that with Chuck, Mary Jo came into my life. To me, MJ is his equal, his true other half in every way. Love like this is not often seen.

A House is only as solid as it's foundation. Our House was built on Charles. Solid as a rock. Extremely Passionate about his hobbies but it paled in comparison to his Love for his best Friend and Wife. Few Men find it. Let alone get a chance to experience it. Charles cherished it! From every Good Man, a Good Woman stands by his side. Charles understood this and was Thankful for this gift.
The World has lost a Good one...
I will miss chasing each other through the Mountains. Our Roadside conversations....The Warm, Summer wind blowing through our cracked visors. The smell of Juniper on our Fossil rides. The sound of Twin by my side.
Memories that will last a lifetime.
Rest peacefully my friend.

Mary Jo was lucky to have found a second true love. Chuck was kind enough to integrate into Bruce's family and thereby doubling the wealth in relationships. I know we all marveled at the obvious respect and love that Chuck and MJ shared, even though they often gave each other a bad time. Although I didn't see Chuck often, he always had a hug and smile when we saw each other again. You are in our hearts, MaryJo. Cousins still, Kimm, Dustin, Stacy and family

Chuck wont be forgotten!

Chuck, you were a great man, friend, biker, husband and Hooligan. You were one of the first Hooligans I met at a meet up in Sublimity.
You welcomed me and made me feel like another guy that just loved to ride, although you did mention the tennis shoes and jeans I was wearing.
We saw each other at a few Hooligan events and rides but it was two years ago when You and John went down to Laguna Seca and Shawn, Brandon, and I went down to ride, we passed you two on our way back on Hwy 96. It was so fricking hot. We all stopped and talked but that day you shook my hand and gave me a hug, that meant a lot. From that day forward it was always a hand shake and a hug every time we saw each other, I'm going to miss that.
Rest in peace my friend, I'll never forget you.
