September 23, 1927 - June 13, 2013

SALEM - Elizabeth Claire Funk, born on September 23, 1927, in Catania, Italy, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013 in Salem. The daughter of a Foreign Service officer, Elizabeth grew up in Italy, England, Barbados, and Mexico. She received her bachelor's degree in English from the University of Texas and her Master's degree in Anthropology from the University of New Mexico. She subsequently moved to the Bay Area in California and later to Salem, Oregon to be closer to family. Elizabeth spent her life as a homemaker and enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, interacting with children, gardening, and animals, especially cats.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Hutchinson. She is survived by her niece, Jean Hutchinson (husband: Frank Benford) of Salem, Oregon; her nephew, Robert Hutchinson (wife: Dita Hutchinson) of Boulder, Colorado; her niece Mary Hutchinson of Vancouver; and three great-nieces.

A private memorial is planned. Donations may be made to the following charities: ASPCA; United Methodist Retirement Center, Salem, OR; St. Joseph's Indian School, Chamberlain, SD. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
