Eric Austin Obituary

Eric Edward Austin

Corvallis - It is with extremely sad hearts that we bid our Eric goodbye and put him in God's hands. Eric passed unexpectedly on June 27 in Corvallis. He was a very kind, caring, and thoughtful person who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was born November 24, 1985, in McMinnville, Oregon. He attended elementary school in Sheridan and Salem, graduating from West Salem High School. He went on to graduate from Boise State University with degrees in writing and literature. At the time of his death he was living in Corvallis with his father's family. He was working as a writer for the Corvallis Advocate and was transcribing city council meetings.

His love of reading, writing, and music led him to be an avid collector of books and records. He enjoyed reading with George, his cat, by his side. Eric's sense of humor endeared him to all he met.

He is survived by his mother, Nancy Caparella, Sheridan; his father, Bruce Austin (Mary), Corvallis; his brother, Mark Austin (Brittany), Boise; and his grandmothers Joan Rogers, Sheridan, and Dorothy Austin, Roseburg, in addition to aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, and a stepbrother and stepsister.

A service will be held on Saturday, July 7, at 1:00 at the Sheridan United Methodist Church in Sheridan, Oregon. There will also be a gathering of friends and the cyclist community in his dad's back yard in Corvallis on Sunday, July 8, at 1:00.

The family requests that anyone who would like to make a donation in Eric's honor go to NAMI.org, which is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, since Eric believed strongly in the need for more mental health services for those in need.

Miss your jokes, your smile and your laugh

October 7, 2018

Eric was my best friend and closest confidant. There is nothing that will replace that hole in my heart. I miss him every day. He was an amazing person. He cared deeply about others and had the most warm and beautiful smile that would make your heart melt. He was always kind and gracious to others and always had smart cleaver things to talk about. I miss Eric dearly and I pray that his memory will continue to live on in our hearts and be an example to live by.
