Fred Mitani Obituary

AUMSVILLE - Fred Mitani left this world suddenly after a brief illness. He was cared for by his loving family at home during his final days of life. Fred was born on July 11, 1930 in Jerome, Idaho to Masatoshi and Itsu (Yamamoto) Mitani. He was one of twelve children. He married Vallie Louise Thomas on May 1, 1953 in Lucydale, Miss. They lived in Jerome, Idaho before moving to Southern California where they lived for 43 years. In 1998, they moved to Aumsville. He served in the Korean War in the U.S. Army working his way up to sergeant. He worked as a brick mason for more than 40 years until his retirement. He continued to stay active and enjoyed puzzles, casinos, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fred is survived by 5 sisters, Alice, Aki, Miki, June and Sherri; 5 brothers, Bob, Ben, Hank, John, and Joe; five children, Bob Thomas of Aumsville, Rhonda Trejo, Tony Mitani and Don Mitani, all of Calif., and Danny Mitani of Brookings. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise and brother, Frank. Private graveside services were held on Tues., March 8 at Lone Oak Cemetery, Stayton. Arrangements by Weddle Funeral Home.
