Helen Astrid Patterson

LAS VEGAS, NV - Age 99, was born in Foreston, MN and died peacefully at home in Las Vegas, NV. She is preceded in death by husband James C. Patterson, brothers Carl and Herbert Johnson. Helen is survived by daughters Jacqueline Anderson of Corrales, NM and Corinne Kaiser of Las Vegas, NV, and grandson Matthew Kaiser of Richland, WA. Helen graduated from Macalester College, St. Paul, MN in 1934 and from University of Illinois with an MS in Library Science in 1942. She and Jim married October 22, 1942. Through the 60's she specialized in research at the Honeywell Engineering Library in Minneapolis. She and Jim retired to Blue River, OR in 1969 where they continued their life-long travels until Jim died. Later, Helen moved to Salem where she delved into cataloging historic newspapers for the city library. Helen also enjoyed leading tours at Bush House and volunteering for animal rescue and other charities. She was a faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran. In 2004, Las Vegas became her home. Active to the last, Helen visited her local library several weeks before she died. Make memorials to Willamette Humane Society PO Box 13005 Salem OR 97309.
