Salem - Ivan Reuben Imig, 67, passed away December 27, 2018, in Salem, Oregon. Ivan is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sue, their two children, Aaron (Jennifer) and Derek (Lindsay), and five grandchildren, Baylie, Isaiah, Arie, Beckham, and Ruby.

Ivan was born on June 26, 1951 in Salem, Oregon to Reuben and Myrna Imig. Ivan was the oldest of 6 brothers, Allen, David, Ron, Paul, and Randy. He attended Salem Academy, graduating in 1969 and then attended Oregon College of Education, obtaining a Sociology degree in 1974. Ivan and Sue met the summer of 1972 and they were married in Holland, Michigan, July 12, 1973. Ivan began working for the Salem-Keizer Public School Transportation Department driving bus in 1970. Ivan remained at the Transportation Department in a variety of roles for 34 years before retiring in 2004.

Ivan was passionate about serving others and volunteering his time. During college he was a volunteer firefighter. He served as a member of the Salem Academy Board of Trustees for 18 years and was very active in his church, serving as an elder and deacon for many years. Upon retirement, Ivan and Sue participated in numerous disaster relief programs across the United States. These tapped into his love of travel and helping people. He will be remembered for his fondness of driving, preparing food, taking pictures, collecting neck ties, and having a servant heart always ready to pitch in and help.

A memorial service for Ivan will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, January 4, at Sunnyslope Christian Reformed Church, in Salem, Oregon. Private interment Stipp Cemetery Macleay. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Scholarship Fund at Salem Academy Christian Schools. Arrangements by Restlawn Funeral Home.
