John Hortsch Obituary

John J. Hortsch

Aumsville - John, 84, died Monday, April 26 in Salem. He was born to Ben and Ann Hortsch in Stayton. John lived most of his life in the Aumsville area. He served in the United States National Guard during the Korean War. John worked most of his life in the plywood industry. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shaw and was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Shaw Council #8270 reaching the 4th degree, and for many years organized their food booth for many festivals. John served on the planning and budget commissions in Aumsville for many years. He enjoyed gardening and his specialty was raising dahlias. John married Edna Gubbels on July 7, 1956 in Silverton, she preceded him in death on July 31, 2016. He is survived by his sons: John M. (Laura) Hortsch of Aumsville, James Hortsch of Aumsville, Michael Hortsch of Salem and Gary (Eva) Hortsch of Portland; brothers: Harry Hortsch of Salem and Jerry Hortsch of Keizer; 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, his sister, Lorraine Butler preceded him in death. Recitation of Rosary will be Friday, April 30, 2021 at 7:00 pm and Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 1:00 pm both at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shaw. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Shaw. Contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus Shaw Council #8270 or Willamette Valley Hospice. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
