Jonathan Delos Hoeye

Mill City - Jon was born March 23, 1951, to Delos and Virginia Hoeye, in Corvallis, Oregon. Delos was a student at Oregon State University, one of the many returning soldiers going to college on the G.I. Bill. The family moved to Silverton and then Mill City where Delos taught woodworking in the high schools. The family moved back to Corvallis after he earned his Masters of Science degree in Industrial Arts and was hired by Oregon State University in that department. Jon graduated from Corvallis High School in 1969. He trained as an auto mechanic with Lyman Slack Chevrolet, and that remained his life-long vocation. He also drove trucks for national trucking companies in the 1990s.

He moved to Mill City in the early 1990s, living in his grandparent's house at 424 Cedar Street.

He had three children, Shelley Durrant with Juanita Durrant of Belfountain, and Eric and Tylor Hoeye with his wife Dana Kateen. Both Shelly and Eric preceded him in death, as well as his parents, Delos (Bill) and Virginia Mason Hoeye, and sister Judi Vedamuthu. Through Shelley's children he was a great-grandfather.

He died unexpectedly while on a day trip to Newport on September 14, 2018. Surviving him are his son Tylor Hoeye of Estacada, and granddaughters Brittney and Leann Logan of Belfountain. Also surviving are his brother, Robin Hoeye, and sister, Ellen Sedell, in the Portland metropolitan area. His ashes will be interred in the Fairview Cemetery, Gates, Oregon, near his parents and sister. Bateman Funeral Home in Newport has provided services for him.
