Matthias Mesdag Obituary
December 12, 1920 - January 6, 2012
PHILOMATH -Matthias (Thies) Mesdag was born to Ferdinand Taco and Magda Ethelka Mesdag on 12/12/20 in Bandung, Indonesia. He attended High School in the Netherlands, and in 1939, was admitted to The Royal Dutch Military Academy. He fled German occupation in 1941, bound for home. He was a P.O.W. under the Japanese, and during this time, met Ann Jacqueline Hageman, whom he married in 1947. They came to Seattle in 1951 and started their family. Matthias worked as associate engineer at Boeing, and with Ann, owned Von Nassau Kennels (German Shepherds), which came to be known the world over! He raised 10 children; Feiko, Taco, Gilles, Vern, Angela, Marion, Lesley, Jeannine, Michelle, Rustyn and took in others who needed help! He was a powerful example of charity and empathy. He was a strict, loving father who had high expectations of his children. In 1982, he & Ann retired to Monmouth, OR. He loved to read whatever he could get his hands on, and encouraged his children to do the same. Matthias was interested in family history & genealogy, and wrote his own life story for his family. In 2008, Ann passed away, and now he is with his wife again! A Celebration of Life will take place at 10:30 Sat. Jan 21, at Acacia Memorial Park in Seattle, where he will rest beside Ann once more.

Doug and I met Matthias and Ann when they came to our real estate office to buy a house. It didn't take long to see what loving people they were. We came to loving them both and remained friends up to their passing.
