Patricia Utter Obituary

Patricia A Utter

April 9, 1927 - June 24, 2014

Patricia was born in Medford, OR, the daughter of Raleigh & Mabel Gatton. She was a lifelong Oregonian, graduating from Silverton High School in 1945. She gained her beautician license practicing in Salem when she met the love of her life, Collins Utter, & they were married on 12/27/1946, enjoying 67-plus years of love & mutual interests.

Pat was an accomplished carver & painter of wood figurines. She also excelled in tole painting, belonging to the Historical Society of Early American Decoration. As an outdoor enthusiast & big game hunter, she traveled to Alaska, Canada, Wyoming & Idaho, where she harvested many trophies. She was a natural marksperson, taking elk, deer, antelope, caribou, goats, black bear and a grizzly bear. She dearly loved the challenge of sheep hunting - harvesting four rams - two bighorn sheep, one Dall sheep & one stone sheep.

Square dancing at the plus DBD level, she was a shining example of beauty and skill.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Collins W. Utter, daughters Julie Rae Utter & Dr. Jill Marie Snyder & a son, Dr. Jeffrey C. Utter. Grandchildren are Andrea Piper, Christina & Brian Snyder & Robyn Calkins. Great-grandchildren are Courtney, Mia & Rozalyn Piper & Ashley & Jake Calkins & Connor Eaton, & one great-great-grandchild Hayden Kempfer.

A Reflection of Life to be attended by kin & close friends will be held at the Salem residence.

There is no doubt that Patty will be sorely missed my many of her friends here in Salem, plus her closer family.
I will share the time she bought Lady Bugs to help her roses bloom. She eagerly released them on her plants one afternoon. The next morning, they were all gone. Later that morning, I met Collins by the fence, and told to him my story of all the mysterious Lady Bugs I discovered on my roses that very day! He roared with laughter and told me where they Must Have come from, because there were none, nary a one, on their roses. But still their roses were the brightest I have ever seen!
