Alan McNeely Obituary

Alan McNeely STATESVILLE Mr. Alan Scott McNeely, 51, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. McNeely was born Nov. 11, 1960, in Iredell County, and was the son of Blake Stewart McNeely and Peggy Watt McNeely. He attended Iredell County schools and, on Sept. 20, 1997, he married Melissa J. Fox, who survives. Mr. McNeely was employed as a road construction superintendent with Curtin Trucking and Drainage. He was an avid UNC Tarheels and NASCAR fan and he was of the Baptist faith. Mr. McNeely was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, along with his maternal grandparents. In addition to his parents, Blake and Peggy McNeely, and his wife, Melissa Fox, Mr. McNeely is survived by his 99-year-old grandmother, Maude Stewart McNeely, and one sister, Karen McNeely Brother-ton, all of Statesville; one nephew, James Blake Goss of Gastonia; his "babies," Smokey, Lucy, Maggie and Sundance, the family cats; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, in Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Tim Stutts officiating. A memorial service will be conducted at 12 p.m. at Front Street Baptist Church with visitation to follow in the church fellowship hall. The family will be assembled at other times at the home of Terry and Gaye Fox, 105 Bowen Drive, Statesville, which is located on the corner of N. Center Street and Bowen Drive. The body will lie in state Sunday at Nicholson Funeral Home. Due to the danger of fresh flowers to cats, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Youth Mission Fund, c/o Front Street Baptist Church, 1403 W. Front St., Statesville, NC 28677. Online condolences can be made at nicholson funerals.com/obituaries. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Alan McNeely.
