Gordon Thomas Schaeffer
Gordon Thomas Schaeffer, 85, of Statesville, passed away Friday, Feb. 19, 2021.
He was born Sept. 23, 1935 in Rochester, N.Y., the son of the late Paul T. Schaeffer and Esther Welsher Schaeffer. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores Stocking Schaeffer.
Gordon proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Furst McNess Company, farm supply products in sales. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, enjoyed working on and collecting electric trains, woodworking, boating, and traveling with Christian Tours. Gordon enjoyed going to breakfast with friends at the local Waffle House or Daylight Donuts.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Kim Lovelady; grandchildren, Chris LaFleur (Dana), Angela Hodges (Paris) and Vanessa Lovelady (Thomas); great-grandchildren, Konnor, Alyssa, Ava, Savannah and Sophia; and numerous friends and family.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Nicholson Funeral Home, 135 E Front St. in Statesville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville.

Awe Sweet Gordy, I am truly going to miss you so much!! Thank you for all your many kindnesses. The 5 am laughs, the shelter in snow storms, the talks in your garage. The Christmas party! My favorite memory, is of you listening to a rap rap song that came on and you turned your veterans cap backwards you started dancing! Such a super charged spirit! I hope your next life reflects all the joy you brought to people in this life. Im sad that you had to go, but ill catch up with you again in the next life. I love you.

I will miss Gordy very much .I met Gordy and Dolly about 40 years ago. Gordy never met a stranger.He always had a joke or 2 to to tell. He and I were Waffle House friends . I met Gordy and Dolly in 1978 when they came to an open house party at my home in Statesville. We became good friends ever since. I will miss him a lot. Larry Fournier

Gerry and I send our most sincere sympathy to your family.
Gordy and my husband Gerry grew up together. I met Gordy at Charlotte High School. We used to double date and always had a laugh because Gordy always had a joke or more. We would always stop to see Gordy and Dolly on our way to Florida and spend a day with them. So much fun and so many wonderful memories. We will truly miss him. What a wonderful person he was!
