Larry Hartzog Obituary

Larry Hampton Hartzog, 72, of Statesville, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mr. Hartzog was born Sept. 19, 1934, in Ashe County and was the son of the late Bower Kilby and Dessie Younce Hartzog. Mr. Hartzog was a retired machine operator for Southern Screw Company and National Peening Company. He was a member of Calvary Community Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lena Ruth Hartzog; a sister, Jane Brown; and a brother, David Winston Hartzog. Larry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Naomi Miller Hartzog, whom he married on April 23, 1958; a son, James Hartzog of Statesville; a granddaughter, Stacey Hartzog of Statesville; two sisters, Toby Hartzog of West Jefferson and Pollie Weaver of Warrensville; five brothers, Thomas Gordon Hartzog and Edward Hartzog, both of West Jefferson, Everette Hartzog of Yadkinville, Jacob Hartzog of Pinnacle, and Steve Hartzog of Statesville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Horton officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:15 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. A second service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of the Boone Family Funeral Home in West Jefferson, with the Rev. Don Horton officiating. The family will also receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Saturday in West Jefferson, prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Riverview Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
