Quentin Thomas Obituary

Quentin T. "Tom" Thomas, 81, of Statesville, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007, at Autumn Care of Statesville following a period of declining health. He was born on Feb. 2, 1926, in Opelika, Ala., and was the son of the late Quinten and Bertha Mae Norrel Thomas. He was a graduate of Opelika schools and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Thomas was enlisted with the U.S. Marines and served overseas during World War II. He was twice injured in battle during 1945 and was awarded two Purple Hearts. Following over 20 years in service during World War II and the Korean War, he retired from active duty. He was married to Christiane Roberta Reid Thomas, who survives. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas made their home for 45 years in Stamford, Conn., and Mr. Thomas worked for a Metal Company for 15 years. They had recently moved to the Statesville area. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sandra Thomas Murdock and husband, Gregory, of Jane Sowers Road, Statesville; a son, Robert Reid Thomas of New York, N.Y.; a granddaughter, LeAnne Romero; a grandson, Charles Glenn Murdock, both of Statesville; and a sister, Carrie Mae Thomas Trussell of Shreveport, La. Mr. Thomas will be buried with military honors in the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., at a later date. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Thomas.
