Edward P. Delage, 90, formerly of St. Augustine and Auburn, Mass., died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at St. Vincent's Hospital, Worcester, Mass., after an illness.
He leaves his three children, Stephen P. Delage and his wife, Nancy of Pomfret Ctr., Conn., Michael E. Delage and his wife, Jane of Dudley, and Christine D. Johnson of Brewster, Mass.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Shirley (Largesse) Delage, in January 2008.
Edward was born and raised in Worcester, the son of the late Edward J. and Victoria F. (Maguder) Delage. He spent many years in Charlton, Mass., and Auburn, before moving to St. Augustine in 1982.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Delage had worked for Lodding Engineering, in Auburn in the research and development department as a machinist. He also retired from the U.S. Navy Reserves as a chief petty officer, serving during World War II, Korea and Vietnam conflicts.
He was a former member of Saint Joseph's Parish in Auburn, Fleet Reserve Association, the NRA, the Knights of Columbus, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He collected firearms, and was a skilled gunsmith and avid watch and clock repairer, and he enjoyed hunting and target shooting. He had previously been a National Rifle Association certified firearms instructor. As an amateur archeologist, he had participated in several digs at Flagler College in St. Augustine.
He and his late wife gave many years of their lives to volunteer services in St. Augustine, among them volunteering at the Department of Mental Health.
Services were held previously.
