Ernest William Meyers, 80, St. Augustine, died Jan. 6, 2008 at Flagler Hospital. He was born in Bronx, N.Y., and had resided in St. Augustine since 2004, moving here from Charleston, S.C. He served in the U.S. Navy for 32 years, a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam, before retiring. After retiring from the Navy he worked as a receiving manager at Kmart for 14 years and then for Wal-Mart for 10 years. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Fleet Reserve, and a member of the Cathedral Parish.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Timothy Lozier, pastor, officiating.
Interment services with military honors will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Charleston, S.C.
Flowers are gratefully accepted or those wishing may make a contribution in his memory to your favorite charity.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fran Meyers.
He is survived by his daughter, Jan Stevens-Casto (Michael), St. Augustine; two sons, David Cargile (Linda) and Tommy Cargile, Atlanta; 10 grandchildren, Patrick, Amy, Matthew (Candice), Kelli, Christy, Heather, Jason, Josh, Christian, Tyler; and five great-grandchildren, Caden, Lyla, Taylor, McKenna and Mason; nephew, Leo Dubois, Ron Kon Komo, N.Y.; and one niece, Dorothy Hamer, Oklahoma.
We will miss you, our beloved Papa Ernie!
