Jason Shank Obituary

Jason Thomas Shank, 24, died Sept. 19, 2014, from injuries sustained in a single vehicle car accident on A1A that occurred when he was driving home to St. Augustine after working a late shift in Ponte Vedra. Jason was born Jan. 10, 1990, in Tallahassee, Fla., to Thomas and Jackie Shank. His family moved to St. Augustine when he was three months old and he grew up in beautiful Porpoise Point and North Beach. He attended Ketterlinus Elementary School, Sebastian Middle School, St. Augustine High School, and St. Johns River State College. He worked in Food Service for over seven years, most recently at Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort. Jason liked music, hanging out with friends, and Seminole football. He was a bright, fun-loving young man who will be dearly missed forever.
He is survived by his father, Thomas Shank (St. Augustine and Brazil); mother, Jackie Shank (St. Augustine); brother, Daniel Shank (St. Augustine); and a loving circle of extended family in Illinois and Wisconsin. A private ceremony is planned.
Craig Funeral Home Crematory Memorial Park www.craigfuneralhome.com is in charge of arrangements.

We are back working in Chirraca which bring back countless memories of me , you and Daniel and later our trip with Amanda. She asks about you with much sadness. Been thinking about you all the time as usual. Along with missing you so much at times I actually am relived you don't have to live in the World it has become.
With all the love a father can have for his son.

Had some rough years since I lost you Jason but finally you got it across to his father that the last thing he would ever want is his Pop so depressed and useless. He would want our interim apart filled with Pops' doing things he loved and loving life.

Thanks Jason, I am back, see you soon.

Jason,
Another year missing you terribly but each and everyday I think of you son. So proud of the man you would be at 31. These days I seem to be able to manage a smile remembering some of our wonderful times spent together. It's hard to get by just upon a smile. I'll always remember you as the loving son who was worried about his dad traveling to Malaysia the last time we spoke in person. '' Be careful Dad ''. Until we meet again I love you Jason more than life itself.

Here I stand the fourth year at your grave,
Still trying to accept the decision God made.
I drive myself crazy for a hint or a clue,
Of why at twenty-four He had to take you.
I would have made the choice, if I'd been given one,
Today someone will die; either you or your son.
I would have stood tall and cried, "Lord! Let it be me!
He has his whole life to live and a precious baby!"
But obviously God doesn't work that way,
For whatever reason, He wanted you that day.
And now here I stand with tears in my eyes,
Every day for four years, I can't tell you goodbye.
I only say I love you and try to concentrate,
To hear your voice, to feel your touch, to see your handsome face.
And if I live to be a hundred I'll still ask Him everyday,
Why didn't He take me instead of my only child away?

Love you always Jason,

Your Dad

I am in shock and so sorry to read of this news today. My Mom Carmela (Millie) Tusa babysat you when you were a baby. We lived over on Anastasia Island. My sister and I were in high school and we used to play with you, make silly faces and silly sounds and you would laugh and giggle. I lost touch with your parents back in the 1990's. We will pray. God Bless you and your family.
