John F. Hartford, 69, of St. Augustine, died on Tuesday morning, April 17, 2012, at the Bailey Family Center for Caring surrounded by his family. A native of Utica, N.Y., he lived for many years in Chicago and Miami, before moving to St. Augustine in 1995. John was a graduate of St. Joseph"s College in Rensselaer, Ind., with a bachelor"s degree in finance. He began his career working as a purchasing agent and served as purchasing director for Abbott Laboratory, American Hospital Supply and Cordis Dow Corp. For many years he was self employed as a private contractor working in the employee leasing business. He attended Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Lola M. Hartford of St. Augustine; a son, Johnny Hartford and wife Noele, of Jacksonville; sisters, Sheila Moller and husband Larry, of Chicago, Marianne Hartford Cummings of Raleigh, N.C., Amy Hartford of Michigan, Katie Crowley and husband Tim, of Cincinnati; and three grandsons, Johnny, Jalend and Jordan Hartford. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Hartford, and a brother, Paul Hartford.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at St. Johns Family Funeral Home with The Rev. Seamus O"Flynn officiating. A visitation of family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at St. Johns Family Funeral Home. Flowers are accepted or donations in his memory can be made to: Bailey Family Center for Caring, c/o Community Hospice of N.E. FL, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257, or to: American Cancer Society, 1430-B Prudential Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
St. Johns Family Funeral Home in St. Augustine is in charge of arrangements.
