Lorraine Huber Obituary

Lorraine Foster Huber, 86, of St. Augustine, passed away Dec. 11, 2018, at the Community Hospice Morris Center in Jacksonville. She was born in Derby, Connecticut, and was raised in Seymour. She was a graduate of Seymour High School. She also participated in girl's state and girl's nation and was selected as a representative to go to Washington, D.C., to meet President Truman. She was a champion cross harbor swimmer and also attended the College of New Rochelle. Lorraine had a great career in retail in both Connecticut and Florida and over the course of her life she and her family relocated eight times to different states. She was a devoted wife of 65 years and a loving mother to eight children. Her infectious beautiful smile would light up a room and in the words of her family she was the kindest, most generous and compassionate person you could meet and a giver of great hugs. She was a lady of many talents and was amazing with crafts and in particular making Christmas wreaths and one of her favorite stores was the Far Away Places Holiday Shop.

Lorraine was preceded in death by a son, Bryan Huber and a sister Jean Shugrue. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Arthur Huber, St. Augustine; children, Karen Huber Linnane (Pat), Milwaukee, Wisc., Cheryl Smith (Don), New Fairfield, Conn., Chip Huber, Danberry, Conn., Sue Huber, Green Bay, Wisc., Laurie Sheahan, (Mike), Wolcott, Conn., Tim Huber, (Tammy), St. Augustine, Wendy Huber, Jacksonville; sister, Judy Foster, Falmouth, Mass.; brother, Bill Foster (Judy), Westbrook, Conn.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A private celebration of her life will be held. Flowers are gratefully declined and those wishing may make a contribution in her memory to the Tommy Wade Gofundme site or to the American Cancer Society. These were causes very close to her heart.

St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Hubers - so sorry for your loss. How blessed you've been to have your mother and wife for so long. Celebrate her life well lived. I have very fond memories of your family in St. Charles. And for many years after we moved your mom always sent Christmas cards to our mom, keeping us up to date on all of you and how much she loved her family. Holding you all in the light as you remember her beautiful smile and laugh.
