Mervin Louis "Bud" Brownsberger

1937 - 2017

Mervin Louis "Bud" Brownsberger, 79, died July 31, 2017 at Flagler Hospital. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1937, and lived, studied and worked in Chicago and Oklahoma before moving to St. Augustine 17 years ago, to the Marsh Creek Country Club neighborhood. He was married to Helen Claudia (Scottie) Brownsberger for 56 years, without whom he simply would not have been. They raised three children, Beth, Kim and Mike and he was "Bubba" to four grandchildren: Emma, Evan, Max and Nate.

Bud graduated from Miami University in Ohio and went on to earn four master's degrees: two from McCormick Theological Seminary and one each from the University of Oklahoma and the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management in Chicago. He served six churches in various capacities; as an assistant dean of students (Oklahoma); director of community relations (Oklahoma); with Scottie, an officer, director and part owner of a pharmaceutical firm in Chicago; and, held adjunct professorships with the University of Oklahoma, the University of Dubuque (International MBA program) and Flagler College, focusing on human relations, business ethics and organizational behavior.

Golf was a major part of his off-work life, and he won a number of club championships and the state senior championship, the highlight being the "Senior Golfer of the Year" award from the Chicago District Golf Association in 1997.

A celebration of life will be held at Marsh Creek Country Club on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017 at 4:30 p.m.

Bud was a supporter of The First Tee of St. John's County and in lieu of gifts, contributions to that organization would be appreciated.
