Born in Trenton, N.J., he was a resident of Hopewell for most of his life, living the last 10 in Pennington Point.
Mr. Burd was a seaman in the Navy serving in the Pacific in World War II on the APA-46 USS Knox.
His varied career had him working as a machinist for Rockwell International, owner/installer Burd Carpet Service, band leader for the Ray Burd Trio, and player for the Woosamonsa Dance Club for more than 25 years. His love for music never ended as he followed various bands performing both in New Jersey and Florida.
He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Mary Margaret Murphy; his parents Lola and John Burd; and his brothers, Nolan and Robert.
He is survived by his son, Robert Burd, and his wife, Kim, of Lumberton, N.J.; daughters, Susan and her husband, William Baglivio, of St. Augustine, Joanne and her husband, John Warner, of Great Falls, Va., and Mary and her husband, Lee Deubler, of Ringoes, N.J. Mr. Burd will also be missed by his five grandchildren, Jeff, Zachary, Danielle, Anne and Samantha, as well as many friends.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, E. Prospect St. and Princeton Ave., Hopewell.
Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. today at the Cromwell-Immordino Memorial Home, 71 E. Prospect St., Hopewell, N.J. 08525.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pennington First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 101, Pennington, N.J. 08534.

Our dear Uncle Ray will always be remembered by the Murphy family for many generations, as even our youngest children will have stories to tell their children. Ray's zest for life will always be an inspiration to us all. We love you Uncle Ray!

my condolences goes out to the family and friends of Mr. Burd. Death is difficult to endure, especially when its the death of a loved one. We all look forward to the time when sickness and death will be no more. Until then, may the many prayers and words of encouragement be a source of comfort to both the family and friends.
